CHENNAI, JAN 22
Marking a decisive leap for diagnostic imaging in South Asia, Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research (SRIHER) has commissioned South Asia’s first state-of-the-art, fully loaded GE Revolution Apex Elite 512-slice Spectral CT scanner at Sri Ramachandra Hospital, Chennai, reinforcing its role as a regional pioneer in advanced healthcare deployment.
The landmark facility was inaugurated by Dr. T.S. Swaminathan, Former Director, Barnard Institute of Radiology, Madras Medical College, in the presence of Chancellor V.R. Venkataachalam, underscoring SRIHER’s commitment to introducing globally benchmarked technology to South Asia.
- South Asia First: SRIHER deploys the region’s most advanced, fully loaded 512-slice Spectral CT platform
- Faster, Safer, Smarter: AI-led low-dose imaging with ECG-less cardiac scans and ultra-fast stroke protocols
- Precision Across Specialties: One scanner, multi-disciplinary impact—from cardiology to critical care
- Beyond Diagnosis: Strengthening research, training and innovation in South Asian healthcare
The GE Revolution Apex Elite sets new standards in speed, safety and diagnostic confidence. Its cutting-edge design delivers high-resolution images at significantly lower radiation doses, enabling clinicians to diagnose complex conditions with greater accuracy while prioritising patient comfort. The system’s rapid acquisition allows many scans to be completed in a single breath-hold, reducing motion artefacts and improving workflow efficiency—critical in emergency and critical care settings.
Salient features of the CT scanner include:
- ECG-less and drug-less cardiac CT in a single breath-hold, independent of heart rate
- AI-based deep learning image reconstruction ensuring low radiation dose
- Fast stroke protocol in under five minutes
- Fastest rotation time with highest temporal resolution
- Spectral imaging with dual-energy for all cases
- Shadow-based High Noon CT navigation for precise needle placement
The advanced platform is expected to transform diagnostics across Cardiology, Oncology, Neurology, Orthopaedics, Gastroenterology, Urology, Paediatrics, Emergency and Critical Care Medicine, besides multiple surgical specialties—positioning SRIHER as a reference centre for South Asia.
Highlighting the clinical impact, Dr. Venkata Sai, HOD – Radiology, stated that the new CT scanner would significantly enhance diagnostic efficiency while maintaining a strong focus on patient safety and comfort. The latest CT technology, he noted, would elevate diagnostic prowess, enable rapid and early clinical decision-making, and guide doctors in delivering the most appropriate personalised patient treatment and care.
With the commissioning of the GE Revolution Apex Elite, the Centre of Excellence in Radiology and Imaging Sciences, SRIHER, further consolidates its leadership not only in delivering advanced, reliable and patient-centric healthcare, but also in fostering research, academic excellence and next-generation training—setting a benchmark for institutions across South Asia.
The inauguration was attended by Trustee, Sri Ramachandra Educational & Health Trust Samyuktha Venkataachalam; Vice Chancellor Uma Sekar; Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. Mahesh Vakamudi; Dean, Medical College Dr. K. Balaji Singh; Registrar Dr. S. Senthil Kumar; Medical Director Dr. R.B. Sudhagar Singh; Medical Superintendent Dr. P. Surendran; Dr. Venkata Sai, HOD – Radiology, along with faculty members and staff.
