AMARAVATI, DEC 12

The YSRCP government is aware of the challenges in implementing  English-medium education in primary level, said Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy here on Thursday.

Making a statement during the debate on English-medium education, the Chief Minister said that the government is aware of the challenges in implementing English-medium at primary level but will overcome them as they are fully geared up to overcome all contingencies.

Jagan said the government is taking every step to overcome the challenges by bringing in changes in the curriculum, giving proper training to the teaching staff and starting bridge courses to the students at primary level.

He said that best of the people from all over the world would be engaged to draft the curriculum and key resource persons, from prestigious institutions, have been identified to train the teachers in language proficiency selecting four teachers per Mandal who will undergo the training course.

Challenges will be there, but we will overcome them by conducting bridge courses in the next academic year from Class one to Class six from April to May.

The move would bring in a revolutionary change in the education system of the state, the Chief Minister said and lashed out at the opposition for their double standards. This is the first time in the country that such a step is being taken.

Of the 44,000 schools in the state English-medium is not available in 65 % of schools while 95% of the private schools have English as their medium of instruction.

The Nadu-Nedu programme recently launched would also bring in change in the wider perspective with the improved infrastructure, he said and expressed firm belief that the new initiatives would be taken forward with the committed officials and Education Minister. In the first phase, 15,715 schools would be developed with an allocation of Rs 3,000 crore.

Earlier, members of the treasury benches lauded the Chief Minister for the major initiative in starting English-medium from primary level and renovating the government schools under Nadu-Nedu and said that weaker sections would benefit immensely with the introduction of English-medium from primary level as they would have a level-playing field.
