Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering received this IGBC Platinum certification after implementing a multitude of initiatives on campus. To further reduce its ecological footprint, Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering has a 1.3 megawatts (MW) solar plant whose output caters to over 75% of the campus’ annual energy requirements. The campus takes waste management seriously as well. As a Zero Liquid Discharge campus, every drop of wastewater is processed by the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), 100% of which is reused on-site, ensuring no liquid waste is released. Furthermore, a 200-kilogram Organic Waste Converter (OWC) system effectively treats 100% of wet waste into valuable manure within the facility.
Moreover, the implementation of dedicated stormwater channels has proven highly effective in facilitating the annual recharge of 4 million litres of rainwater into the aquifer.
With these extensive efforts, Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering fully embodies its NetZero campus vision, striving to create an environmentally conscious and sustainable institution.
The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Platinum certification is granted after a comprehensive evaluation of a site’s innovation in design and its environmental contributions across various categories. These include Site Selection & Planning, Water Conservation, Energy Conservation, Material Conservation, and Indoor Environmental Quality & Occupational Health. Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering performed exceedingly on most of these parameters to earn the certificate.
