With an avowed aim to cleanse the politics of criminalization, the Honourable Supreme Court had in August, 2021 directed the political parties to upload on their websites and social media platforms the details of pending criminal cases against their candidates and the reasons for selecting them as also for not giving ticket to those without criminal antecedents.
The Election Commission of India has also been complying with the apex court’s directive in order to save the democracy from the hands of vested interests with criminal records.
Meanwhile, the Gujarat Assembly elections are the talk of the town in the country as the western state with 182 assembly seats will go to polls in two phases on December 1 and December 5.
As a law-abiding national party with good governance principles, the Bharatiya Janata Party has been following the directives of the country’s highest judicial authority in letter and spirit. The high command of the BJP in this regard sent a firm message that it will not allow any candidate with criminal charges to contest the Gujarat Assembly elections.
Sending home the message with a stern warning to such kind of politicians with criminal record, the BJP has denied Jamnagar seat in the state to the city’s BJP MLA, Dharmendrasinh Jadeja (Hakubha) owing to criminal charges against him.
It alleged that, this action was raked up once again by the Congress candidate Vikram Maadam from the Khambhalia seat who accused the BJP of sidelining the Jamnagar’s BJP MLA from contesting elections.
He maligned the BJP in a video by stating that, ‘’Hakubha, despite spending a hefty amount and pleasing the party, has been denied a ticket.’’
Maadam also said people are wanting to break the trio of Hakubha, NCP MLA from Kutiyana, Kandhal Jadeja, and Vikram Maadam. Kandhal Jadeja has also been denied a ticket from the NCP this time.
According to a senior BJP leader, the endorsement of the criminally charged Hakhubha by Maadam is highly condemnable.
Recently, the Gujarat High Court denied withdrawing the case of armed rioting against Hakubha
which was filed in 2008 for violence at an Essar Plant in Vadinar. Owing to this he was denied the Jamnagar ticket by the BJP this time.
Post this, to show his influence, Hakubha approached the Congress party for a ticket but faced disappointment after being denied one.
Following the refusal, the Jamnagar MLA also changed his DP on Twitter with the one without the reflection of the BJP, but eventually joined back the party after the denial of the ticket from Congress.
Neitherb Dharmendrasinh Jadeja (Hakubha) nor Vikram Madaam could not be contacted despite many attempts.
