AHMEDABAD, APRIL 3
Ahead of Gujarat Assembly polls, Brahmin community has announced that they will urge all parties to allocate majority of the seats for Brahmin candidates in the ensuing polls. With adequate representations in the Assembly, they can uplift the community youth to get good education, jobs and start their own business. This will propel their socio-economic development, said a youth leader of the Samaj, an organisation claiming to represent the Brahmin community in the state.
To fulfiul this goal, the Shree Samast Gujarat Brahm Samaj’s State Unit chief Bharatbhai Raval and general secretary Amitbhai Dave on Friday announced the appointment of Malavbhai Pandit as its youth wing chief. Pandit has been working for the betterment of the Samaj and its youth selflessly without taking any donation for a long time, they announced.
The Shree Samast Gujarat Brahm Samaj’s Youth Wing president Malav Pandit said, “I have taken this responsibility in the larger interest of our community and the youths’ development. I will contribute my might for the self-reliance, education, employment and socio-economic uplift of our youth in every nook and corner of the state with utmost devotion. Further, the Samaj will celebrate Parashuram Jayanthi, and special camps for youth to show our strength and unity. After discussing with our Samaj Trustee Dr Yagnesh Dave, we will finalise all our developmental strategies.”
Talking about the Samaj’s political plunge, Pandit said, “In Gujarat, our community is a force to reckon with as we have sizable population to tilt the balance of power. We urge all political parties to nominate our community representatives in the ensuing Assembly polls. We will extend support to the parties allocating tickets to us.”
For the above mentioned goals, we will organise free medical camps, business summit in all four zones, institute Brahm Gaurav awards, and cultural events, he added.
The Samaj will celebrate Parashuram Jayanti by organising a Dayaro event on May 3 at Tagore Hall.
Aiming to promote sportsmanship, the Samaj is organising a cricket tourney from April 18 to 26. 32 teams will vie in this tourney to be held in Ahmedabad.
There are about 65 lakh Brahmins in Gujarat, comprising around 15 lakh families, or approximately 9.5 percent population of the state. About 70 percent of these, that is more than 45 lakh Brahmins, are not well off economically. Incidentally, politically active Patidars constitute 10.5 percent of the state’s population.
