India Cements launches 2nd Season of cricket tourney exclusively for civil engineers

In a unique sport-linked marketing initiative, India Cements, which boasts of a rich tradition of cricket for more than five decades, has announced the launch of India Cements Pro League- Season 2, a special cricket tournament exclusively for civil engineers, a key stakeholder in construction and infrastructure.

Like the launch edition, ICPL Season 2 tournament will be hosted in association with Federation of all Civil Engineer’s Association of Tamil Nadu & Puducherry (FACEAT&P).

KS Viswanathan, CEO, Chennai Super Kings unveiled the official ICPL  Jersey & Trophy for season 2 in Chennai  on Thursday in the presence of R Srinivasan, Executive President (Finance & Accounts), India Cements, Parthasarathy Ramanujam, Chief Marketing Officer,  S. Natesh, State Head (Sales & Marketing – Tamil Nadu) and Rajesh President ,FACEAT & P.

Jayaprakash – Sports Secretary, FACEAT &P, Duraikannan, State Co-Ordinator and Kathiravan, Captain, Tanjore Super Kings, winner of ICPL 1 & Saravanan, CSK Super Fan also joined the occasion.

India Cements has announced the launch of ICPL season 2 following the tremendous success of the inaugural edition in 2022 with over 600 Civil engineers participating in the tournament held between 17th December 2022 to 23rd January 2023.

In all, 48 Teams played in league matches held in 8 cities and the finals in Chennai. Tanjore Super Kings became the 1st champions of India Cements Pro League in the finals hosted in Chennai on January 29, 2023.

ICPL season 1 provided an ideal platform and an exciting tournament for a large number of certified registered civil engineers across Tamil Nadu for showcasing their flair for the favourite game with their teams keenly competing in the matches.

Parthasarathy Ramanujam, Chief Marketing Officer, India Cements said, “We are delighted to announce the much awaited and evolved ICPL season 2 in association with FACEAT&P with over 900 Civil Engineers in 60 teams from 38 districts across Tamil Nadu participating in the tournament kickstarting on December 23, 2023. The finals will be held in Chennai on February 17 & 18, 2024”.

He said India Cements considers civil engineers as one of the major influencers in cement marketing and wants to   engage them through ICPL. Civil engineer is one of the most influential segments in deciding the purchase of cement by homeowners. In the decision-making process, it is the civil engineers who put the brand in the consideration set.

In a press release, giving details of   ICPL Season 2 format, the Company said in the pre qualifiers, 48 teams qualified for the league stage. League matches will be conducted in 8 venues across Tamil Nadu (Salem, Tirunelveli, Madurai, Trichy, Coimbatore, Vellore, Tiruvarur & Karaikudi). The winners from every venue will be battling for the rolling ICPL trophy in Chennai on February 17 and 18, 2024.

Tournament Format

Phase 1: League

48 teams will be participating in league knock out matches in 8 venues.

Venues – Salem, Tirunelveli, Madurai, Trichy, Coimbatore, Vellore, Tiruvarur & Karaikudi

6 teams will be playing in every venue.

1 winner from each ground will be playing in the finals in Chennai.

Phase 2: Final

1 winner from every ground, 8 teams will be playing in the Quarter finals, Semifinals and finals in Chennai.

Finals will be conducted in Chennai on February 17&18, 2024.
