India and Greece took a decisive step towards strengthening their strategic and defence partnership as Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held bilateral talks with the Minister of National Defence of the Hellenic Republic, Nikolaos-Georgios Dendias, in New Delhi on February 9, 2026. The two leaders reaffirmed that the India–Greece Strategic Partnership is firmly anchored in shared values of peace, stability, freedom and mutual respect.

Defence Industry Collaboration Enters New Phase
Underscoring the growing convergence between the two nations, both sides agreed to expand the capacity of their indigenous defence industries by aligning India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative with Greece’s defence reforms under ‘Agenda 2030’.

A Joint Declaration of Intent on strengthening defence industrial cooperation was signed, marking a key milestone and serving as the foundation for developing a five-year roadmap for collaboration.
Military Cooperation Plan 2026 Exchanged
The Defence Ministers reviewed regional and global security issues and acknowledged the steady deepening of bilateral defence cooperation and strategic ties. In a significant outcome, a Bilateral Military Cooperation Plan for 2026 was exchanged, laying out a structured framework for future military engagements and interactions between the Armed Forces of both countries.
Maritime Synergy Between Two Ancient Seafaring Nations
Highlighting strong maritime convergence, both sides noted alignment on key maritime security issues. The Greek side announced the positioning of a Greek International Liaison Officer at the Information Fusion Centre – Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR), Gurugram, further strengthening information sharing and maritime domain awareness.
Tribute at National War Memorial, Guard of Honour
Earlier in the day, the Greek Defence Minister laid a wreath at the National War Memorial, paying homage to India’s bravehearts who made the supreme sacrifice in service of the nation. He also inspected the Tri-Service Guard of Honour at the Manekshaw Centre, reflecting the ceremonial warmth of the visit.
Industry Engagements Reinforce Strategic Depth
During his stay, the Hellenic delegation visited key defence and industrial establishments in Bengaluru and interacted with DPSUs, defence industry players and start-ups in New Delhi. These engagements highlighted the growing role of industry-to-industry collaboration in the evolving India–Greece defence partnership.
The visit reaffirms the strategic partnership between India and the Hellenic Republic, rooted in a long-standing, warm and close relationship between the two nations and their peoples, and signals a shared intent to elevate defence cooperation to a new, future-ready level.
