“India Post has transformed into a modern, inclusive, and digitally empowered institution, true to its motto Dak Sewa–Jan Sewa,” said Postmaster General (PMG) Krishna Kumar Yadav, while inaugurating the Postal Business Development and Financial Inclusion Maha Mela at Dr. Ambedkar Bhavan Auditorium, Gandhinagar.

Yadav highli inghted the Department’s evolving role — from “Dakiya Dak Laya” to “Dakiya Bank Laya” under the Aharnish Seva Mahe initiative — noting its vital contribution in implementing flagship government schemes, promoting financial literacy, and expanding safe savings options across rural and urban India.

Local to Global: Strengthening ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’

Emphasizing the success of Dakghar Niryat Kendras, Yadav said local artisans, ODOP (One District One Product) units, GI-tagged products, and MSMEs are reaching global markets through India Post.

“Through Dakghar Niryat Kendras, local products are finding international buyers, realizing the vision of Vocal for Local and Atmanirbhar Bharat,” he remarked.

The PMG also underlined how advanced postal technologies and digital payment solutions are supporting the goals of Digital India and a cashless economy.

Women Empowerment through Sukanya Samriddhi

Distributing passbooks under the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, Yadav said every family should consider this as a commitment to their daughters’ secure future.

“This scheme is not just about savings but about giving wings to the dreams of our daughters,” he said, urging families to open accounts during festivals like Navratri.

Currently, 4.77 lakh Sukanya Samriddhi accounts operate across North Gujarat, with 850 villages declared Sampoorna Sukanya Samriddhi Grams. In Gandhinagar Division alone, over 89,000 accounts are active across 286 villages.

Financial Inclusion & Outreach

Senior Superintendent of Posts, Gandhinagar Division, Piyush Rajak, said the Maha Mela aimed to deepen public awareness of postal welfare and financial inclusion schemes.

  • 7.09 lakh Savings accounts and 1.4 lakh IPPB accounts are operational in Gandhinagar Division.
  • 120 villages have been declared Sampoorna Bima Gram and 33 villages as Sampoorna Bachat Gram.
  • 3,000+ passports have been issued this year through the Post Office Passport Seva Kendra, and 36,000 people have availed Aadhaar services.

A Dak Chaupal was also organised at the Mela to raise awareness about Aadhaar enrolment, digital banking, DBT, general insurance, e-commerce exports, and My Stamp philately initiatives for youth.

Celebrating Performance & Service

During the event, postal employees were felicitated for their exceptional contributions. Citizens, students, and local representatives joined the mela, which showcased the expanding role of India Post in business development, financial inclusion, and digital empowerment.
