The Department of Posts celebrated World Post Day with pride and enthusiasm across Gujarat on Wednesday, highlighting this year’s theme — “Post for People: Local Service, Global Reach.” The celebration underscored the department’s evolution from a traditional communication network to a dynamic, digitally integrated service platform connecting citizens, commerce, and communities across India and the world.

At a grand function held at ‘Meghdootam Hall’ in Ahmedabad, Chief Postmaster General (Gujarat Circle) Shri Ganesh V. Sawaleshwarkar released a special cover on the theme “India Post: Financial Empowerment to the Last Mile” and a special cancellation mark on World Post Day. The event also witnessed the distribution of Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana passbooks, Postal Life Insurance bonds, and India Post Payments Bank documents to beneficiaries — symbolizing India Post’s role in advancing financial inclusion.

Senior officials including Postmaster General (North Gujarat Region) Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav, General Manager (Finance) Dr. Rajeev Kandpal, and Director Postal Services (HQ) Shri Surekh Raghunathan were present at the ceremony, which also saw enthusiastic participation from officers across the Gujarat Postal Circle.

India Post: From Dak Ghar to Digital India

Addressing the gathering, Chief Postmaster General Shri Ganesh V. Sawaleshwarkar said that India Post has been “a trusted medium of communication and trade for generations” and continues to play a vital role in national development.

“Through the ‘Dak Seva Jan Seva’ initiative, India Post is not only delivering letters but also financial empowerment. From traditional services to digital banking and logistics, India Post stands as a people’s service hub, connecting every citizen to the nation’s growth story,” he said.

He emphasized that modernization and digital transformation have enabled the postal system to reach even the remotest corners of the country with speed, transparency, and accessibility — embodying the spirit of ‘Local Service, Global Reach.’

Postal Service: The Heartbeat of People and Trade

Postmaster General Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav underlined that World Post Day reminds the world of how the postal network supports daily life, trade, and socio-economic growth.

“The Department of Posts represents the essence of inclusivity — ensuring that no citizen, no matter how remote, is left behind in the flow of communication, commerce, and care,” he said.

Tracing its legacy, Yadav noted that the Universal Postal Union (UPU) was founded on 9th October 1874 in Bern, Switzerland, establishing a unified global postal framework. India joined the UPU on 1st July 1876, becoming the first Asian country to do so. Since 1969, the date has been celebrated as World Post Day globally.

He added that initiatives like “Advanced Postal Technology 2.0” have brought digital innovation into India Post’s core operations, enabling a seamless blend of technology, transparency, and trust.

Adapting to the Times, Serving with Trust

General Manager (Finance) Dr. Rajeev Kandpal noted that India Post has witnessed and shaped historic transformations, evolving from a messenger of communication to a multifunctional public service institution.

“From letters to logistics and savings to insurance, India Post has been part of every Indian’s life story. Its strength lies in combining human touch with digital innovation,” he said.

A Network that Connects the Nation

The event was attended by senior officers, including Assistant Postmaster General Shri Shivam Tyagi, Senior Superintendent (RMS) Shri Piyush Rajak, Senior Superintendent (Ahmedabad) Shri Chirag Mehta, Senior Superintendent (Gandhinagar) Shri Shishir Kumar, and India Post Payments Bank officials, among others.

With its expanding range of financial, logistical, and communication services, India Post continues to reaffirm its position as a symbol of people’s trust — a true bridge between tradition and technology, serving India’s citizens at every doorstep.
