India Post is steadily reinventing itself as a digital-era service provider, connecting welfare schemes, savings instruments, and business opportunities right up to the last mile. This transformation was highlighted at the ‘Postal Business Development and Financial Inclusion Maha Mela’, inaugurated by Postmaster General (North Gujarat Region) Krishna Kumar Yadav at the Odhav Industries Association Auditorium on Tuesday, September 16.

Post Office: From Mail Delivery to Service Hub
Speaking at the event, Shri Yadav emphasized that the post office has evolved far beyond traditional mail delivery. Today, it functions as a multi-service delivery centre, integrating digital tools and financial products to better serve citizens.
“India Post, through continuous innovation and modernization, is ensuring that welfare schemes, financial products, and local businesses can seamlessly connect with people across the country,” he said.
Key highlights included:
- Dakghar Niryat Kendras helping local products reach international markets.
- Popularity of savings schemes due to secure investment and attractive interest rates.
- Delivery of over 1.04 lakh toolkits to artisans nationwide under the PM Vishwakarma Yojana.
- Booking of 4.5 lakh Bilva Patra from Ahmedabad GPO for Somnath Trust during Sawan, delivered to devotees nationwide.
- Successful rollout of Advanced Postal Technology 2.0, significantly improving operational efficiency.
He also lauded Branch Postmaster Yash Vaishnani for setting a national record by booking 2,513 accountable mails in a single day on September 13, reflecting the evolving capabilities of India Post.

Boosting Financial Inclusion in Ahmedabad
Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Shri Chirag Mehta, noted that Ahmedabad is at the forefront of financial inclusion through postal initiatives. Current achievements include:
- 13.5 lakh savings accounts
- 7.3 lakh savings certificates
- 1.12 lakh Sukanya Samriddhi accounts
- 1.46 lakh India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) accounts
Additionally, 105 villages have been declared Sampoorna Sukanya Samriddhi Gram, 36 villages as Sampoorna Bima Gram, and 22 villages as Sampoorna Bachat Gram. Aadhaar services too have expanded, with 46,000+ citizens benefitting through Post Offices and 29,000+ through IPPB this financial year.
Empowering Citizens and Businesses
The event also highlighted inspiring stories:
- Heer Modi, a Sukanya Samriddhi account holder, praised the scheme and encouraged more families to secure their daughters’ future.
- Jainam Shah of Preeti Gruh Udyog shared how India Post enabled his small business to expand across India and abroad.
Local dignitaries, including Odhav Ward Councilor Shri Rajesh Kumar Dave, Councilor Ms. Nitaben Desai, and Odhav Industries Association President Shri Mukeshbhai Vekaria lauded India Post’s role in promoting financial literacy, women empowerment, and community trust.

A large number of postal employees and sub-divisional heads were felicitated by Shri Yadav for their outstanding performance and innovation in service delivery, underlining the department’s commitment to efficiency and customer satisfaction.
