NEW DELHI, JAN 20
In a major boost to MSMEs, artisans, start-ups and small exporters, the Department of Posts (DoP) under the Ministry of Communications has operationalised the extension of key export incentive benefits through the postal channel, marking a significant step in democratising India’s export ecosystem.
With effect from January 15, 2026, exporters using the postal route are now eligible for Duty Drawback, Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products (RoDTEP) and Rebate of State and Central Taxes and Levies (RoSCTL), in line with notifications issued by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).
Postal Route Emerges as Export Gateway for MSMEs
The move is expected to particularly benefit micro and small exporters who rely on the postal network for low- and medium-value international consignments, offering them the same incentive access as traditional shipping routes.
With automated IGST refunds already in place, the availability of export incentives through the postal channel will further:
- Reduce export transaction costs
- Improve cash flows and working capital
- Enhance price competitiveness in global markets
This initiative aligns with the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023 and the Government’s push for Ease of Doing Business and cross-border e-commerce growth.
Dak Ghar Niryat Kendras Power Grassroots Exports
Exports through the postal channel are facilitated via Dak Ghar Niryat Kendras (DNKs) — a joint initiative of the Department of Posts and CBIC that provides end-to-end export facilitation under one roof.
At present, 1,013 DNKs are operational across India, enabling exporters from remote and underserved regions to access global markets through:
- Digital documentation
- Simplified booking
- Seamless customs clearance
To ensure smooth rollout, system upgrades have been completed on the DNK/Self-Service Portal and Customs platforms, backed by clear Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for exporters and field officials.
India Post Offers End-to-End Export Solutions
India Post today provides a single-window export solution, covering:
- Pick-up and logistics
- Online documentation and payments
- Faceless customs clearance
- Real-time shipment tracking
Services such as the International Tracked Packet Service (ITPS) — currently available in 135 countries — offer a reliable and cost-effective channel for cross-border e-commerce shipments, especially for MSMEs and individual entrepreneurs.
By leveraging its vast postal footprint and digital infrastructure, the Department of Posts continues to bridge the export access gap and strengthen India’s position in global trade.
Postal ATMs Expand Banking Access Nationwide
In a parallel move to deepen financial inclusion, the Department of Posts has also revamped its ATM infrastructure, activating 887 India Post ATMs across the country.
Installed at post offices, these ATMs enable citizens — especially in rural and underserved areas — to conveniently:
- Withdraw cash
- Check account balances
- Conduct basic banking transactions
The initiative supports the Government’s vision of inclusive digital banking, ensuring that essential financial services are accessible closer to citizens’ homes.
All citizens have been encouraged to avail themselves of India Post’s ATM services, available nationwide.
