The President emphasised that the Indian Ocean Region is one of the world’s most crucial maritime highways for global energy supplies and trade. Positioned at its centre, India carries a special responsibility, she said, adding that the nation is committed to ensuring the oceans remain open, stable and governed by international rules. Guided by the ethos of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, she noted that India’s maritime approach is collaborative, rooted in shared awareness, capacity building and peaceful use of the seas.
Highlighting the Navy’s expanding role, the President said it is the principal guardian of India’s maritime security, deterring threats, combating piracy, securing the Exclusive Economic Zone, and ensuring freedom of navigation. Beyond defence, she said, the Navy reflects India’s humanitarian values — acting as a first responder during crises across the Indian Ocean Region, evacuating citizens and delivering essential aid. She expressed confidence that initiatives under the SAGAR vision will further strengthen maritime domain awareness and humanitarian outreach.
Underscoring India’s push towards a strong Blue Economy, the President said the Navy plays a pivotal role by protecting marine resources, preventing illegal activities, securing sea lanes and supporting maritime research — all key to achieving safe, prosperous and sustainable oceans.
She also noted the importance of modernisation and technological advancement for combat readiness. She welcomed the Navy’s growing capability to design and build complex platforms indigenously and expressed confidence that continued innovation will accelerate the vision of Viksit Bharat.
The President also extended Navy Day greetings to naval personnel, veterans and families, saying the nation salutes the brave men and women “who safeguard maritime borders and national interests with courage, vigilance and unwavering commitment.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also greeted Navy personnel, praising their exceptional courage, determination and commitment to self-reliance and modernisation. Recalling his Diwali spent with Naval personnel on board INS Vikrant, he said recent advancements have significantly enhanced India’s security apparatus.
