NEW DELHI, SEPT 8
India’s unemployment rate has dropped to just 2 per cent — the lowest among G20 countries — according to the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2025. Union Labour & Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Monday credited the achievement to India’s strong economic growth and a series of targeted government schemes aimed at boosting employment and youth development.

Mandaviya was speaking at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Labour & Employment and two partners — Mentor Together and Quikr. He underscored how the government is strengthening the job ecosystem through collaboration, digital platforms, and large-scale skill-building initiatives.
At the centre of these efforts is the National Career Service (NCS) Portal, which Mandaviya described as a “one-stop solution” for all employment services. The platform has evolved into one of the world’s largest public employment databases, with:
- 52 lakh registered employers
- 5.79 crore job seekers
- 7.22 crore mobilised vacancies
- 44 lakh active job listings
He also noted that partnerships with companies like Amazon and Swiggy have mobilised nearly five lakh vacancies in the past year alone.
Highlighting the government’s broader youth agenda, Mandaviya referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Rs 2 lakh crore package announced at the start of his third term, designed to benefit 4.1 crore young Indians through employment and skilling schemes. A flagship under this package is the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PM-VBRY), launched in August 2025 with an outlay of Rs 99,446 crore. The scheme aims to generate 3.5 crore jobs over two years, including 1.92 crore roles for first-time entrants.
As part of Monday’s event:
- The MoU with Mentor Together will provide personalised career mentoring to at least two lakh youth in the first year, with half drawn from NCS and half from PM-VBRY. The initiative will tap into a network of 24,000 trained mentors, with a focus on underserved communities and first-time job seekers.
- The renewed MoU with Quikr will integrate over 1,200 daily job listings across 1,200 cities into the NCS portal. This is expected to broaden real-time job access in both urban and rural India, extending opportunities to job seekers in remote regions.
Concluding, Mandaviya said these initiatives mark a holistic, future-ready approach to job creation, combining technology, mentoring, and private sector participation to build an inclusive workforce for India’s next decade of growth.
