The city-based Indian Bank, stepping into its 115th year of unflinching service to the nation has taken the lead in felicitating the heroes of Tokyo Paralympic 2020 at a grand gala function held here on Saturday.
The Indian para-athletes won the country a haul of a total number of 19 medals including 5 Gold at the recently concluded Tokyo Paralympics 2020.
Marking India’s best-ever performance in the Paralympics which includes 8 Silver and 6 Bronze medals.

Indian Bank awarded 10 para-athletes with token of appreciation for their exemplary efforts at the felicitation function held at its prestigious Image Auditorium in Chennai.
Those who were felicitated were Men’s Javelin Throw Gold winner Sumit Antil and the dashing duo of Pramod Bhagat & Krishna Nagar who won a Gold medal each in the Badminton Men’s single event. Shining with a Silver medal in their respective events, para-athletes Yogesh Kathunia, Singhraj Adhana and Mariappan Thangavelu were awarded for their efforts along with Bronze medal winners Sharad Kumar, Manoj Sarkar and Harwinder Singh. Additionally, para-athlete Navdeep Singh was also feted for his commendable 4th position in the Men’s Javelin Throw event.
Banking partner with PCI; inks MoU
Indian Bank is a Banking Partner of Paralympic Committee of India, the apex body overseeing the para-sports in India, and has entered into a long-term commitment with it wherein it extends support for training, equipment, nutrition and medical needs amongst others of the aspiring athletes.
Lauding the para-athletes, Shanti Lal Jain, MD & CEO, Indian Bank said, “It gives me great pleasure to be part of this event that recognizes the outstanding achievements of these gritty para-athletes. Addressing the gathering Dr. Deepa Malik, President of the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) said,” We have always believed in the sheer talent, strength and resolve of all our para-athletes which has borne immense fruit in the form of 19 medals at the recent Paralympics. This gradual growth of our athletes has filled us with pride and further strengthened our commitment to support all budding para-athletes in our country. I would like to thank team Indian Bank for conducting this felicitation ceremony and trust that our association with them will further provide impetus to the hard-work put by both the para-athletes and the entire supporting team involved.”
Executive Directors of Indian Bank, V V Shenoy & Imran Amin Siddiqui encouraged the para-athletes.
General Managers, Executives and other staff members of Indian Bank and trainers of para-atheletes and office-bearers of PCI were present.
Felicitation event began with Indian Bank Anthem in Hindi and culminated with national anthem.
A team of officers and staff members enthralled the audience with inspirational songs in national language.
