The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on Tuesday conducted a medical evacuation of a fisherman, Sanjay Giga, who was drowning from a fishing boat off Jakhau coast in Gujarat.

“In yet another rescue operation at sea on Tuesday around 11:30 hours approx, the Indian Coast Guard Interceptor Boat C-437 saved fisherman, named Sanjay Giga, from drowning at sea, approx 22 km from Jakhau. The ship while on area surveillance off Kutch coast received the alert from fishing boat Marwa. The ICG ship diverted and expeditiously reached the incident location. Within no time the casualty was located and he was swiftly recovered in unconscious state. The fisherman was administered first aid and then taken to Jakhau Harbour where treatment was given by Station Medical Officer. The fisherman is presently admitted in CHC, Naliya and is reported in healthy condition now,” the Coast Guard said in a statement..
Recently on the night of 01 May 2024, ICG ship had evacuated one critically injured crew from Fishing Boat St Francis, 130 kms into sea west of Veraval.
The Indian Coast Guard again showcased its motto of ‘We Protect” or “वयम्रक्षामः” in letter and spirit by contributing to saving of a precious life at sea.
