The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on Saturday announced that it had evacuated a critically ill fisherman to Porbandar harbour on Friday night from midsea.

The ICG Ship C-161 whilst on operational deployment on Friday, intercepted a distress call from Indian Fishing Boat Diksha regarding severe respiratory distress to the tandel of the Indian fishing boat (IFB) at about 9:30 pm. The C-161 was immediately diverted by Coast Guard District HQ at Porbandar for medical evacuation.
C-161 evacuated the distressed patient, provided him first aid and succour during passage and brought the patient to Porbandar harbour at 10:15 pm.
The quick response by the ICG Interceptor Boat (IB) under the command of Assistant Commandant Karthikeyan resulted in timely assistance and evacuation for the patient as a result of which his life could be saved. The patient is reportedly stable and well.
