The Indian Medical Association, the largest body of medical fraternity in the nation has sought the immediate intervention of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami to stop TNHB’s bid to relocate the frontline warriors from Peters Colony, Tamil Nadu Government Servants Rental Scheme of the TNHB, and that too in the middle of the academic year.

Prof Dr. J.A. Jayalal, National President-elect (2020-2021), Indian Medical Association in an appeal written to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister said “Indian Medical Association (IMA) working for the welfare of the medical fraternity, especially those who have dedicated their lives to save people from the dreaded Coronavirus – Frontline Warriors, came to know that the Tamil Nadu Housing Board has been entrusted to construct a 20-floor shopping mall after razing 346 flats spread over 21 blocks in Peters Colony, Tamil Nadu Government Servants Rental Housing Scheme amidst pandemic.

“The IMA fervently appeals to the Honourable Chief Minister to consider the pleas of the residents, including frontline warriors like journalists and government servants, residing in Peters Colony on humanitarian grounds that they should not be disturbed in the middle of the academic year, as wards of many families are studying in the institutions in and around Royapettah, Gopalapuram, Triplicane and Mylapore area.

Dr. Jayalal said, “It is respectfully submitted that many of the frontline warriors have been tirelessly working round the clock at Government Covid care facilities. Any bid to dislocate them to far off places would have its cascading effect on the government’s efforts to contain the spread of the pandemic.
The IMA requests the Chief Minister to instruct the TNHB officials to drop its eviction plan as of now and allow the allottees to live peacefully till the end of the current academic year 2020- 2021.
Dr. Jayalal, along with the IMA TN Chapter President Dr. Ramakrishnan met the Chief Minister to convey their condolences to the Chief Minister for the death of the mother on Monday.
Later, Dr. Jayalal along with office-bearers of IMA TN Chapter held discussion with the State Health and Family Welfare Minister C. Vijayabhaskar and discussed about the corona pandemic and coordination of IMA with the state government.
