An intelligent and savvy investor should hire any experienced attorney, and conduct his due diligence before investing his hard-earned money with the regional center. The minimum investment amount has increased from $1 million to $1.8 million while in Targeted Employment Area (TEA), the investment amount went up from $500,000 to $900,000, said Naresh M Gehi Esq., the Founder & the Principal Attorney of Gehis Immigration & International Legal Services here on Tuesday.

US-based Naresh M Gehi , an expert in complex Immigration strategies, foreign investments, optimization of tax benefits, cross-border investment and tax issues, shared these thoughtful insights on Indo-US immigration and safeguarding investment opportunities at an Open Session Forum organized at Ahmedabad Management Association.
In an hour long lecture, Gehi shared this thoughts on how to obtain Green Card through the Investor Visa Program (EB -5), the direct investment under the EB-5 Visa Program, Current issues pending under the Regional Centre Program. Also discussed were the B1/B2 visa program updates under the current Biden Administration. Family based Immigration to the United States and movement in Visa bulletin was also discussed along with alternative ways to get Green Card in the US through EB 1 Category.
The US Investor Visa Program (EB -5) allows foreign investors to invest $800,000 USD (paid in parts for selective projects) to obtain a U.S. Green Card for the investor, the investor’s spouse, and any children under the age of 21. Should the investor wish to convert their Green Card/Permanent Residency to Citizenship later then this is also an option under this program, Gehi added.
Gehi also spoke to the audience about the steps to be undertaken if a case is stuck before the American consulate and how to start branch offices for Indian Companies through L1A and L1B Visas. An interesting talk also took place on that Actors, Entertainers or Performers who are in the Film and Media Sector have some interesting opportunities available for seeking opportunities in America and what are the possible ways.
Around 75 – 100 entrepreneurs attended the Open Forum Session and immensely gained from the exchange of valuable knowledge.
Beware of unregulated agents indulging in human smuggling
Talking about Gujaratis penchant for settling in the US, Gehi said, the success stories of Indians who managed to make a better life for themselves abroad, are like a beam of hope for many back home, who are dreaming of a similar future.

Out of the 10.3 million undocumented immigrants in the US, 5,87,000 were from India and most of them from Gujarat and Punjab; the third-largest share.
Human smuggling into the US is a multi-million dollar business. According to reports, it can cost anywhere between Rs 50 lakh to Rs 70 lakh per person to enter the US illegally.
But innocent families in smaller cities and villages, often fall prey to immigration agents, and end up taking massive loans or selling their lands to pursue their American dream.
But these unregulated agents never tell them of the risks that they may encounter on the way.
