As the Gujarat High Court Advocates Association (GHAA) heads into a crucial election on December 19, 2025, Advocate Darshan Shah, a young and practicing advocate of the Gujarat High Court, has emerged as a candidate whose vision is rooted not just in reform, but in values, integrity and leadership by example—principles eloquently reflected in the Bhagwat Gita.

Announcing his candidature for the post of GHAA President, Advocate Shah said, “Now is the time to make the Bar more modern, strong and future-oriented by giving opportunities to young leadership with the blessings of seniors.”

Leadership Rooted in Integrity: The Gita Perspective

Drawing inspiration from the Bhagwat Gita, Advocate Shah’s approach mirrors the timeless verse:

“यद्यदाचरति श्रेष्ठस्तत्तदेवेतरो जनः”
“Whatever action a great person performs, common people follow.” (Gita 3.21)

Legal fraternity members note that this principle—leading from the front through conduct, not authority—is reflected in Shah’s journey and his decision to contest with humility rather than confrontation.

“Leadership is not about power, but about responsibility and example,” Shah remarked, aligning his vision with the Gita’s emphasis on karma and duty.

A Vision Born from Experience

Having personally experienced the challenges faced by young advocates—limited guidance, lack of structured learning and uncertain work opportunities—Advocate Shah has positioned his candidature as a bridge between generations.

“There is immense talent among young advocates. My aim is to ensure that experience and youthful energy complement each other within GHAA,” he said.

His outlook resonates with another Gita teaching:

“कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन”
“Focus on your duty, without attachment to outcomes.” (Gita 2.47)

Colleagues say this reflects Shah’s commitment to institutional growth over personal ambition.

Three Pillars for a Stronger, Ethical GHAA

  1. Institutionalised Mentorship and Learning:
Shah proposes a structured GHAA learning platform, where senior advocates mentor juniors in drafting, research, courtcraft and advocacy through regular workshops and practical sessions.
  2. Transparent Work Opportunity Ecosystem:
He envisions a fair and transparent platform connecting senior chambers with young advocates for drafting and court work—ensuring dignity of labour and real professional exposure.
  3. Technology with a Human Touch:
From a GHAA Tech Help Desk to e-filing guidance, digital libraries and an online grievance-suggestion system, Shah wants technology to simplify—not complicate—legal practice.

“Technology should serve advocates, not overwhelm them,” he emphasised.

Unity, Not Division

Invoking the Gita’s message of harmony and collective duty, Advocate Shah made it clear that his candidature is not against any senior advocate or group.

“GHAA is a family. Respect for seniors and opportunities for juniors must go hand in hand,” he said, reflecting the Gita’s ideal of lokasangraha—working for the collective good.

Social Media Applauds a ‘Leader with Values’

Following his announcement, social media platforms witnessed an outpouring of support:

A senior advocate posted on X:

“Darshan Shah practices what he preaches—integrity, humility and clarity. A leader who leads by example.”

A young lawyer wrote on Instagram:

“Inspired by his vision and his values. GHAA needs leadership grounded in ethics, not ego.”

Another well-wisher commented on Facebook:

“The Gita speaks of leaders who act selflessly. Darshan Shah fits that ideal.”

A Call to Serve, Not Rule

Concluding his appeal, Advocate Darshan Shah summed up his philosophy with quiet conviction:

“I seek not authority, but an opportunity to serve. With the blessings of seniors and the strength of unity, we can build a GHAA that is modern, ethical and future-ready.”

As the GHAA election approaches, many within the Bar see Advocate Darshan Shah’s candidature as a rare blend of youthful vision and timeless values—where the wisdom of the Bhagwat Gita meets the demands of a modern legal institution.
