Strengthening its presence in one of South India’s fastest-growing home and interiors markets, Interio by Godrej — the flagship furniture brand of Godrej Enterprises Group — has unveiled its revamped flagship store in Chennai while outlining ambitious expansion plans for Tamil Nadu.

The brand is targeting revenues of ₹65 crore from Tamil Nadu and ₹45 crore from Chennai by FY27, alongside an aggressive push to capture nearly 40 per cent market share in the city over the next three years.

  • ‘Moments That Matter’ study reveals Southern India’s growing preference for comfort-driven, home-centric lifestyles
  • Multifunctional furniture, storage-led solutions and work-from-home setups emerge as top consumer trends

Spread across nearly 6,000 sq.ft., the newly revamped Chennai store has been designed as a comprehensive destination for modern Indian homes, offering modular, configurable and personalised furniture solutions across bedroom, living and dining categories. The outlet also introduces an expanded range of soft furnishings, reflecting evolving consumer preferences for integrated lifestyle and home décor solutions.

The expansion aligns with Interio’s larger strategy to make thoughtfully designed living spaces more accessible while elevating the overall retail experience for urban consumers.

Alongside the store launch, the company also unveiled its ‘Moments That Matter’ (MTM) study, which explores how everyday experiences within homes influence emotional well-being, comfort and interpersonal connection among modern Indian consumers.

Dr. Dev Narayan Sarkar, Senior Vice President and Head of Consumer Business (B2C), Interio by Godrej, said:

“Chennai continues to be a strategically important market for us, with steady residential demand and a healthy pipeline of new launches reflecting sustained end-user confidence. The city recorded over 5,000 residential unit launches in the last quarter, underscoring consistent momentum driven by a stable, salaried workforce and ongoing infrastructure improvements. This is translating into a growing preference for organised, modular, and end-to-end home solutions. We are also seeing consumers in Chennai gravitate towards functional, clutter-free spaces, with a strong focus on durability, clean design, and efficient use of space.”

Highlighting emerging lifestyle trends shaping the furniture industry, he added:

“Categories such as multifunctional furniture, storage-led solutions, and work-from-home setups are gaining traction, shaped by compact urban living and evolving household structures. Our focus remains on strengthening accessibility while enhancing the overall consumer journey across touchpoints, alongside rising demand for kitchens and integrated interior solutions.”

Interio has significantly expanded its retail and distribution network across Chennai and Tamil Nadu, backed by eight new showrooms, 45 channel partners and nearly 250 retailers. The company continues to witness robust demand across key categories including home storage, bedroom and living room furniture, while modular kitchens and mattresses are also gaining strong traction.

The MTM study — conducted with more than 2,600 respondents across India — offers fresh insights into changing consumer lifestyles in Southern India.

According to the study, nearly 95 per cent of respondents in Southern India said they sleep best in their own bed, reaffirming the emotional importance of home as a space for comfort and restoration. Around 86 per cent preferred spending Friday evenings at home, reflecting a broader shift toward home-centric living. The report also underscored the emotional significance of family bonding, with 93 per cent of respondents stating that spending time with loved ones and sharing the day’s experiences in the evening remains deeply valued. The findings indicate that homes across Southern India are increasingly evolving beyond purely functional spaces into environments designed to foster relaxation, emotional connection and overall well-being.
