The Indian Coast Guard on Friday announced that the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), headquartered in London, United Kingdom conferred the ‘Certificate of Commendation’ to the ICG, says a release.
It was given in recognition of an exceptional act of bravery displayed by the courageous officers and men namely Commandant B Bhatt, Satish (Pradhan Adhikari), Abhishek Tomar (Navik) and Kaushik Nautiyal (Navik) for undertaking the skillful towing while maintaining firefighting operation of ablaze MT New Diamond which caught fire on September 3, 2020 off Sri Lankan coast and was drifting towards coast laden with dangerous inflammable cargo.
The IMO’s global recognition towards proactive approach for rescue operation by the Indian Coast Guard reaffirms its potential to safeguard marine environment and collective resolve with our neighbour nations, the release added.
