Commemorating the International Women’s Day, the Southern Railway operates Train No. 22666 Coimbatore – KSR Bengaluru UDAY Express on Sunday (March 8) with All Women Crew of Salem Division. All operations including Loco Pilots, Train Guard, Train Ticket Examiners has been handled by Women staff.
According to a release, the All Women crew members that powered the UDAY Express were H. Nimmy Loco pilot, B.J. Sindhu Assistant Loco Pilot, Guard of Train S. Mareena, Train Ticket Checking Staffs Mythili, Chief Travelling Ticket Inspector P.R.Savithiri, Chief Travelling Ticket Inspector, Dhanya,Travelling Ticket Examiner Helen Mary and Travelling Ticket Examiner R. Nandhini.
The train commenced its journey from Coimbatore and reaches Salem. On reaching Salem, A. Annadurai Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Salem, E. Harikrishnan Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Salem and Dr. Uma Maheswari Senior Divisional Finance Manager Salem received the Women Crew at Salem and distributed the sweets and honoured them.
Women Crew of Salem division has received the overwhelmed appreciations from all the Passengers, Rail fans and Railway officials. Salem Division Southern Railway is committed to take care of women.
Every endeavour is made to provide a safer and comfortable ambiance for women passengers and female staff. In tune with the robust policies of Indian railways, Salem division has taken several steps towards women empowerment at workplace and strengthened security measures and facilities for women passengers in railway stations and trains.
Salem division is proud in all the 1131 women employees that it has on its rolls.
Women staff serve in all spheres of railway working – Loco pilots (74 Nos), Train Guard (4 Nos), Station Master (19), Operating Assistant (129 Nos), Engineering Department( 294 Nos), Mechanical (125 Nos), Personnel Department (26 Nos), Accounts (10 nos) Railway Protection Force (13 Nos), Traction (10 nos), Medical Department (71 nos) and Accounts (10), Signal & Telecommunications (37 nos), Stores (02 nos), Booking counters clerk and Travelling ticket examiners (153). Utmost care is taken to provide safe working conditions and the same is closely monitored by officers and supervisors.
Women facilitations centres set up at Coimbatore Jn, Baby feeding rooms at all major and important station of Salem division for the benefit of lactating mothers.
All women ticket checking crew of Coimbatore- KSR Bengaluru UDAY AC Double Decker has received overwhelming appreciation from rail passengers for their exemplary work. .
#EachforEqual, #SheInspiresUs campaign from March 1 to March 10
Salem Division, Southern railway is celebrating a ten day long campaign from March 1 to March 10. Theme of the campaign is #EachforEqual signifying that collectively each one of us can help create a gender equal world and railway is also focussing on #SheInspiresUs highlighting the inspiring stories of women achievers.
Various activities are being conducted during this period, including health checkups, essay competition, self defence programme, Sports activities, a release added.
