The Thencherimalai Farmer Producer Organization (FPO), operating successfully under the guidance of Isha Outreach, on Saturday announced it has been awarded the ‘Best FPO’ award by National Bank For Agriculture And Rural Development (NABARD) for the fiscal year 2023-24.
This award was presented by Tamil Nadu Minister for Co-operatives K. R. Periyakaruppan at the 43rd annual celebration held in Chennai on Thursday (July 18).
- The award was received by Rangaraj, the director and farmer of Thencherimalai Farmer Producer Organization, and Swami Nalada on behalf of Isha Outreach
- Operating as part of Isha Outreach’s ‘Save Soil Movement’, Thencherimalai Farmer Producer Organization is one of 25 FPOs functioning under Isha Outreach’s guidance
- The total sales of this organization, which primarily focuses on coconut as its main crop, amounted to Rs. 1.58 crore in its first year
Thencherimalai FPO has been recognized as one of the outstanding FPOs supported by NABARD in Tamil Nadu. At this event organized by NABARD, the award was received by Rangaraj, the director and farmer of Thencherimalai Farmer Producer Organization, and Swami Nalada on behalf of Isha Outreach.
Operating as part of Isha Outreach’s ‘Save Soil Movement’, Thencherimalai Farmer Producer Organization is one of 25 FPOs functioning under Isha Outreach’s guidance. Established in Sultanpet, Coimbatore, the organization had over 750 farmers join as members in its very first year.
The FPO provides guidance and support to its member farmers, particularly in coconut cultivation and marketing. The total sales of this organization, which primarily focuses on coconut as its main crop, amounted to Rs. 1.58 crore in its first year. Notably, a total of 9,377 farmers are benefiting from the FPOs operating under the direct guidance of Isha Outreach.
The Chief General Manager, Regional Manager of NABARD Bank, Regional Manager of RBI, and Regional Manager of Indian Bank were present at the occasion.
