AHMEDABAD, MAY 21
In view of the COVID-19 pandemic situation and reports of oxygen shortage at many places, a group of Islamic organisations and philanthropists from the US have donated more than 100
to medical facilities treating COVID patients in Gujarat and other states, says a release.
The Ahmedabad Sunni Muslim Waqf Committee and the Al Amin Charitable Trust mobilized support from various organisations and individual donors to arrange 100 oxygen concentrators.
The American Federation of Muslims of Indian Origin (AFMI) donated 25 oxygen concentrators, and the Gujarati Muslim Association of America (GMAA) 10 concentrators. Twenty concentrators were donated by Munis Saiyed based in the US, and the rest by other philanthropic individuals and organisations.
“This is an unprecedented healthcare crisis, and it is everyone’s duty and responsibility to help in any way they can. The donation of oxygen concentrators is a small contribution from our side in this fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in our motherland,” said the two organisations.
Of the 100 oxygen concentrators, 50 were donated to Al Ameen Hospital in Ahmedabad, and 20 to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College at Aligarh.
Ten concentrators were donated to a hospital in Hyderabad, seven to an NGO in Aligarh, five to Darool Uloom in Vadodara, four to MJ Duch Education and Charitable Trust in Nadiad, and two to Sahyog Trust in Kapadwanj in Gujarat.
The oxygen concentrators provide a continuous flow of concentrated oxygen of more than 90% from room air for patients who have low blood oxygen levels.
