Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy has convened a review meeting of the Grater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) here on Tuesday.
Chairing the review meeting, the Chief Minister directed the officials to augment filtered water supply to the residents of the city and sought the details on the proposals being under process for the metro rail master plan for Visakhapatnam.
Jagan has reviewed on transport, drinking water, development of roads and tourism projects for Visakhapatnam. The officials briefed to the Chief Minister that around 40 percent of water from canals are being wasted and said that water should be supplied through the pipeline as a part of the water grid. He also directed the officials to prepare proposals to meet the requirement of drinking water facilities for Payakaraopeta, Yalamanchili, Narsipatnam and Anakapalli areas.
Jagan suggested the officials to use desalinated/recycled water for industries and mentioned that Israel was using desalination water for industrial purposes. He said that it costs 57 cents for 1000 liters which means 4 paise for one liter. They have discussed measures to be taken to prevent pollution and groundwater contamination due to the dumping of waste materials from the past few years. For the same, the Chief Minister decided for the bio-mining process in the Kapuluppada dumping yard. Subsequently, bio-mining should be introduced in all the dumping yards to prevent pollution.
Officials apprised the CM about Submarine Museum, the food court, and Planetarium at Kailasagiri. The officials gave the detail on metro rail master plan proposals; 10 corridors would be constructed in 10 phases with a total length of 140.13 kilometers. During the first phase it has been proposed to cover 46.40 km, steel plant to Kommadi covers 34.23 km, Gurudwar to Old Post office covers 5.26 km, Tadichetlapalem to RK Beach covers 6.91 km. It is proposed that the project should be completed before 2024.
Visakhapatnam District Collector Vinay Chand, Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation MD NP Ramakrishna Reddy, Visakhapatnam Municipal Commissioner Srujana and VMRDA Vice-Chairman Koteshwar Rao were also present.
