Dr Kusa Kumar Shaha, (Dean, JIPMER, Karaikal) on Monday inaugurated the SERB-sponsored One-week High-End Karyashala Workshop on “Deep Learning for Biomedical Signal Processing.” It is conducted by the Department of ECE, on at Mini-Conference Hall, Guest House, NIT Puducherry.

Dean R &C Dr GS Mahapatra, Professor Dr Jyotindra S Sahambi, IIT Ropa, Dr Malaya Kumar Nath (Asst Professor, HoD, and event organizer, Karyashala), Deans, HoDs, Faculties, Staffs, Research Scholars, Students, were prsent at the inauguration ceremony. Director Dr. Makarand Madhao Ghangrekar and Registrar Dr. S. Sundaravarathan wished the workshop a grand success.

Dr. Shaha discussed the importance of biomedical signal processing for patient diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring. As the field continues to evolve, its contributions to medical science and healthcare will undoubtedly expand, driven by technological advancements, research, and ethical practice.

The event coordinator, Dr Malaya Kumar Nath has said that, the workshop will help the participants gain knowledge in deep learning, signal processing, machine learning, and their application for identifying diagnostic information from medical images and signals to improve healthcare and understand gaps and challenges in the medical field. This workshop collaborates with industry, academia, medical centres, and research organizations. This forum will discuss healthcare issues and how artificial intelligence (AI) might help solve them for a better living in the digital age.

25 participants outside the institute and three from NIT Puducherry have registered for this workshop. During the one-week workshop, Dr. Jyotindra S. Sahambi (Professor, IIT Ropar), Dr. S. Vanitha (Professor, Department of Respiratory Medicine VMMC, Karaikal), Dr. Rangaraj M. Rangayyan (Professor, Emeritus of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Calgary), Dr. Niruban (MBBS, MS, DNB, FRCS (Glasgow) FCRS, Associate Professor & Officer in charge, Ophthalmology, JIPMER, Karaikal), Dr. Ram Bilas Pachori (Professor, IIT Indore), Dr. Samarendra Dandapat (Professor, IIT Guwahati), Dr. Poonguzhali Elangovan (Postdoctoral Fellow, Department of Radiology, School of Medicine, University of Colorado Denver Anschutz Medical Campus, USA), Dr. Anurag Singh (Assistant Professor IIIT – Naya Raipur), Dr. Seokbum Ko (Professor, Dept. of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Professor, Div. of Biomedical Engineering, University of Saskatchewan, Canada), Dr Norton Stephen (Assistant Professor,

Pathology, AIIMS MADURAI), Dr. Shyam Lal (Associate Professor, Department of ECE, NIT Karnataka), Dr. P. Thiyagarajan (Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science Central University of Tamil Nadu), and Malaya Kumar Nath (Assistant Professor, NIT Puducherry) will deliver talk on various topics on deep learning & its application on medical field for identifying diagnostic information and revolutionizing health care. The hands-on session will provide depth in understanding the concept.
