In a major step toward advancing India’s digital healthcare ecosystem, the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) has launched free registration and instant on-site printing of Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) Cards for the public.
The ABHA Card—a unique 14-digit digital health ID—allows citizens to seamlessly link, access, and manage their medical records across hospitals and healthcare providers nationwide. This initiative comes under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), the Government of India’s flagship programme aimed at creating an integrated, secure, and inclusive digital health network.
- Empowering Citizens Under Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission for Seamless, Paperless, and Secure Healthcare Access
- Public Urged to Enroll and Link Health Records for Better Continuity of Care and PM-JAY Benefits
Transforming Healthcare Through Digital Empowerment
The ABHA card enables:
- Secure storage and easy sharing of prescriptions, test results, and reports with doctors and hospitals.
- Paperless access to health records, eliminating duplication of tests and improving care continuity.
- Access to health services across India within the ABDM network.
- A free, convenient, and patient-friendly digital experience.
For beneficiaries under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), the ABHA card adds further value by ensuring cashless, paperless hospitalization, seamless coordination of medical care, and smooth portability across empanelled hospitals. PM-JAY provides ₹5 lakh annual coverage per family for secondary and tertiary treatment—making it the world’s largest government-funded health assurance scheme.
“ABHA is a transformative step towards building a robust digital health infrastructure across the nation,” said Dr. Vir Singh Negi, Director, JIPMER.
“It aligns with the vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to ensure equitable, efficient, and technology-enabled healthcare delivery for every citizen. We urge the public to actively utilize this service and be part of India’s digital health revolution.”
Easy On-Site Registration
Citizens can register for their ABHA Card free of cost by visiting designated counters within JIPMER. They must bring their Aadhaar card and the mobile number linked to Aadhaar for OTP verification. Upon successful authentication, the ABHA card is generated, printed, and handed over immediately.
Registration Counters:
- Screening OPD
- RCC Block
- Women & Children’s Hospital (WCH) Block
- Institute Block
- Super Speciality Block (SSB)
These counters function during regular office hours on all working days.
With this initiative, JIPMER is empowering citizens to take control of their health data, bridging the gap between digital innovation and accessible, affordable healthcare—a crucial stride toward Universal Health Coverage and the Digital India vision.
