Honourable Justice Ajay Rastogi, Former Judge Supreme Court of India on Saturday underscored the pivotal role of the younger generation in upholding the principles of justice and fairness.
The Unitedworld School of Law affiliated with Karnavati University recently concluded the second International Moot Court Competition 2024, marking another milestone in legal education and advocacy.
Karnavati University is a state private university dedicated to excellence in teaching and is focused on interdisciplinary learning. The International Moot Court Competition was held at the university’s sprawling campus in Uvarsad, Gandhinagar from April 11-13, when the campus became a melting pot of ideas from aspiring legal minds. Around 22 team registered from various national and international universities. 60 students participated in the competition.
This year, the International Moot Court Competition 2024, was themed on ‘International Commercial Arbitration’. During the inaugural ceremony, Honourable Justice KS Jhaveri, former Chief Justice of the Odisha High Court, A Venkatesan, General Manager (Law) at GAIL (India) Limited, and Dr P Lakshmi, Dean, Unitedworld School of Law, graced the occasion with their presence and shared invaluable insights with the participants.
The ceremony included team registrations and the traditional draw of lots, setting the stage for the competitive events. The team from Sastra University in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu emerged as the winner. Students of Nirma University in Ahmedabad, Gujarat were the first runners up while those from Kurukshetra University in Thanesar, Haryana stood as the second runners up.
Through the course of the event, teams were engaged in rigorous moot court sessions, showcasing their legal acumen and prowess in navigating complex issues of international commercial arbitration. The ‘Moot Problem; presented a challenging scenario in international commercial arbitration, allowing participants to delve deep into comparative legal strategies and enhance their understanding of international law. Each team’s performance in the final rounds of the International Moot Court Competition 2024 was evaluated by a panel of distinguished legal practitioners, including Dr Shrikant Parthasarathy, Advocate Trusha Kanubhai Patel, Kartik Seth, and A Venkatesan.
At the valedictory ceremony held on April 13, Honourable Justice Ajay Rastogi, Former Judge Supreme Court of India and Dr. Lalit Bhasin, President, Charted Institute of Arbitrators- India Chapter remained present as guests of honour.
During his address, Justice Rastogi underscored the pivotal role of the younger generation in upholding the principles of justice and fairness, urging participants to maintain diligence and integrity in their practice.
On the other hand, Dr Lalit Bhasin, during his address, emphasised the transformative impact of technology in the legal profession. He urged aspiring legal practitioners to adapt and innovate. The International Moot Court Competition 2024 at Karnavati University not only provided a platform for legal education and advocacy but also fostered meaningful dialogues between aspiring and seasoned legal professionals.
