To cater to the needs of this Gujarati cinephiles, the industry is evolving to keep pace with other cinema industries, including Southern cinemas. It is no wonder that newer, bolder and stronger narratives are now finding acceptance in Gujarati cinema. The industry has been embracing bold and fresh themes. There is now an increase in the audience size and base, which is a welcome trend to rake in the moolah in the boxoffice.
Recently Viral Shah’s Kutch Express (2022), a female underdog’s entrepreneurial journey, has won three national awards this year for best actress, best costume design and best feature film promoting national and social values.
Emboldened by this recognition for novel idea, for the first time the Western India and the Eastern India cultures have been shot well by a Gujarati producer for “Kaashi Raaghav,” to exhibit the best of both for the culture-vultures of Gujarat. This film is all set to release in January 2025. Produced by Dhanpal Shah under the banner of Dhanpal Films, the film stars Deeksha Joshi and Jayesh More in the lead roles, with a story and direction by Dhruv Goswami.
An official poster of date announcement for the film has been released, generating excitement. The film promises to deliver a gripping drama filled with deep emotions and the intricacies of relationships.
In addition to Deeksha Joshi and Jayesh More, Shruhad Goswami and child artist Pihushree Gadhvi play important roles. Although this is a Gujarati film, it also incorporates a Kolkata backdrop. “Kaashi Raaghav” is expected to stand strong against even Hindi films in terms of quality and storytelling. Many talented actors including Bharat Thakkar, Kalpana Gagadekar, Saurabh Saraswat, Preeti Das, Vishal Thakkar, Devansh Patel, Jigar Bagaria, Hiral Dangar and Gaurang JD will also be seen in this film.
The storyline revolves around the complexities of love and relationships. Deeksha Joshi will be seen in a completely new role offering a fresh performance to the audience. The film is co-written by Jatan Pandya, Jhanvi Chopra, and Dhruv Goswami. Music for the film is composed by Vatsal and Kavan, with cinematography by Pratik Parmar. The film’s date announcement poster features the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi, and the shooting took place in Gujarat, Varanasi, and Kolkata. The film also uniquely blends Gujarati and Bengali languages, a feature never before seen in a regional film.
