Shah, who addressed the cadres from his campaign vehicle, invoked the name of Lord Ram, before targetting the ruling dispensation.
Hundreds of party cadres, invigorated by his visit, joined Shah in the road show from Mettukadai Junction, Thuckalay, to the Old Bus Stand in Kanyakumari.
Shah greeted the cadres from his specially-designed vehicle and flashed the party’s Lotus symbol throughout the stretch, as party members chanted “Modi again”, “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Ponnar again.”
Radhakrishnan, a former union minister, is fondly addressed as Ponnar by supporters.
The senior BJP leader standing in an flower-decked open vehicle waved and greeted the huge number of people, who gathered on both sides of the road, carrying party flags and the portraits of Shah, chanting “Bharat Matha Ki Jai” and “Meendum Modi, Vendum Modi” (Once again Modi, we want Modi) slogans.
Hundreds of BJP men and women also participated in the roadshow.
Addressing the party workers , the Home Minister appealed to the people of Tamil Nadu to strengthen the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has been aiming for the country’s growth and security.
He said due to the corrupt rule of DMK and AIADMK over the past years, the State has failed to attain the expected level of growth.
Tight security arrangements were made by the police in view of the roadshow.
In his address, Shah said Modi was taking the country on the path of progress.
People in Tamil Nadu were chanting the “chaar sau par” (over 400 seats), he said, alluding to the BJP’s target of achieving the said number of constituencies.
Shah also sought the people to vote for the party’s candidate for the Vilavankode bypoll, V S Nandini, and ensure her victory.
The Kanyakumari constituency is set to witness a triangular contest, as the Congress, AIADMK and BJP parties have fielded Vijay Vasanth, Nazerath Pasilian and Pon Radhakrishnan respectively.
Vijay Vasanth is the sitting MP from Kanyakumari constituency, who won the by-election after the demise of his father H.Vasanthakumar in August 2020. Vasanthakumar defeated Pon Radhakrishnan in the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
The by-poll for Vilavancode assembly constituency was necessitated after sitting Congress MLA S.Vijayadharani quit the party and joined the BJP recently.
The Election Commission of India announced that by-election to Vilavancode assembly constituency in Kanyakumari district will be held along with Lok Sabha polls on April 19 in Tamil Nadu.
