Kargil Vijay Diwas was celebrated at the School of Internal Security Defence and Strategic Studies, Rashtriya Raksha University, honouring the sacrifice of the brave soldiers who laid down their lives in the defence of the nation during the 1999 Kargil War here on Friday.
Major General Deepak Mehra, KC, AVSM, VSM (Retd), a Kargil War Veteran, graced the occasion by sharing and recounting his personal accounts of the war with the audience.
The event was inaugurated by a poignant chant of traditional verses that imbued with a sense of patriotism, enabling the audience to connect deeply with the valour and sacrifices of the soldiers who fought in the harsh terrains of Kargil. Highlighting the spirit of the event, young students from the Raksha Shakti School (RSS) and graduates from SISDSS enthusiastically participated in a poster making event themed around the valour and sacrifice of our soldiers. Their artistic expressions reflected deep reverence and gratitude towards our armed forces.
To display their heartfelt gratitude towards to the Indian Army, students had also written over a hundred letters to the soldiers guarding our frontiers. The act of writing allowed the students to express their appreciation for the soldiers’ courage and dedication, while also fostering a sense of national pride and empathy. For the soldiers, receiving these messages provides a meaningful connection to home, boosting their morale and reminding them that their efforts are deeply valued and recognised by the younger generation.
The Kargil Diwas function at Rashtriya Raksha University not only serves as a tribute to our heroes but also as an opportunity to instil a sense of duty and patriotism among the future defenders of our country. We as a nation owe them a debt of gratitude that can never be fully repaid, but through our remembrance and continued support for their families, we can ensure that their legacy lives on. May we never forget their sacrifice, and may it inspire us to work towards a future of peace and unity. The event held at the university campus, witnessed University dignitaries, service veterans, faculty members, and students coming together to pay their tribute to the indomitable courage and sacrifice of our armed forces.
Pro-Vice Chancellor, Dr Kalpesh Wandra, Director, School of Internal Security and SMART Policing (SISSP) reminded that the freedom and security we enjoy today is built on the sacrifices of those who serve on the borders and motivated the young minds to uphold the values of courage, integrity and dedication in their personal and professional lives.
