CHENNAI, DEC 1

With the spirit of reconnecting two of India’s oldest cultural centres—Kashi and Tamil Nadu—Kashi Tamil Sangamam 4.0 begins on December 2, 2025, bringing renewed energy, deeper purpose and an expanded cultural vision to this nationally celebrated initiative. This edition sharpens the focus on language learning and youth participation, positioning Tamil as a bridge of unity under the resonant theme “Let Us Learn Tamil – Tamil Karkalam.”

  • A Grand Civilisational Reunion Linking Kashi and Tamil Nadu
  • Edition Anchored in the Theme “Let Us Learn Tamil – Tamil Karkalam”
  • Major Focus on Language Learning, Cultural Immersion and Youth Exchange
  • Celebrations to Conclude Symbolically at Rameswaram, Completing the North–South Cultural Arc

Reviving an Eternal Link: The Purpose of the Sangamam

A living expression of the civilisational bond shared by Tamil Nadu and Kashi, the Sangamam celebrates an exchange that has endured for centuries. For generations, pilgrims, poets and seekers have journeyed between the two regions, carrying ideas, faith, language and artistic traditions. The Sangamam, launched in 2022 during Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, revitalised this connection in the national consciousness through the guiding ethos of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.

Anchored by the Ministry of Education, with IIT Madras and Banaras Hindu University (BHU) as principal knowledge partners, and participation from ten Union ministries along with the Uttar Pradesh government, the Sangamam has grown into a unique confluence of culture, scholarship, spirituality and people-to-people exchange.

What’s New in KTS 4.0? Tamil at the Centre

This year’s edition elevates Tamil language learning as a national movement. Under Tamil Karkalam, 50 trained Tamil teachers will introduce spoken Tamil in 50 schools across Varanasi, teaching 1,500 students through structured modules supported by BHU, CIIL Mysuru, IRCTC and the district administration.

Complementing this is Tamil Karpom, a study-tour programme through which 300 college students from the Kashi region will visit Tamil Nadu in 10 batches. They will undergo Tamil language training at premier institutions such as IIT Madras, Pondicherry University, Shastra University, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and several leading colleges across the state, coupled with curated cultural visits to sites of Tamil–Kashi heritage.

Tracing Civilisation: The Sage Agastya Vehicle Expedition

A powerful symbol of classical connectivity, the Sage Agastya Vehicle Expedition (SAVE) begins in Tenkasi on December 2 and reaches Kashi on December 10, retracing a route associated with Sage Agastya and the civilisational spread of Tamil knowledge across India. Along its journey, it highlights cultural legacies from the Chera, Chola, Pandya, Pallava, Chalukya and Vijayanagara periods, and celebrates shared traditions, Siddha wisdom, and classical Tamil literature.

1.0 to 4.0: The Making of a Cultural Movement

Since its inception, Kashi Tamil Sangamam has evolved from a cultural celebration into a nationwide educational and spiritual movement.

  • KTS 1.0 (2022): Inaugurated by the Prime Minister, it brought 2,500+ delegates from 12 groups for immersive tours, seminars, cultural events and heritage visits.
  • KTS 2.0 (2023): Expanded participation, introduced real-time Tamil translation of the PM’s address, and attracted lakhs of visitors to cultural exhibitions.
  • KTS 3.0 (2025): Focused on Sage Agastya’s intellectual legacy, synchronised with the Mahakumbh Mela and Ram Mandir inauguration, and deepened academic discourse.

Each edition has added a distinctive layer—cultural immersion, public participation, knowledge-driven engagement—building a rich foundation for continued cultural integration.

Towards a Cultural Continuum

With more than 1,400 delegates from Tamil Nadu representing students, scholars, artisans, spiritual leaders, farmers, professionals, women and media, KTS 4.0 is positioned to be the most inclusive and educationally transformative edition so far.

The celebrations will culminate with a grand Valedictory Function at Rameswaram, symbolically completing the journey from Kashi to Tamil Nadu—an arc that mirrors the spiritual, cultural and linguistic unity at the heart of this initiative.

As Kashi Tamil Sangamam 4.0 begins, it carries forward a timeless truth: India’s unity thrives when its languages, traditions and communities meet, learn and celebrate together.
