In a landmark advancement for cardiac care, Kauvery Hospital, Vadapalani, has emerged as the first hospital in Tamil Nadu to introduce advanced electroanatomical 3D mapping technology for the treatment of complex heart rhythm disorders, significantly raising the bar for electrophysiology care in the State.
The breakthrough enables world-class management of challenging arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation affecting the upper chambers of the heart and ventricular tachycardia, a dangerously rapid rhythm arising from the lower chambers that can be life-threatening if left untreated.
- Cutting-edge cardiac technologies strengthen electrophysiology studies, enabling precise and safer treatment of heart rhythm disorders
- Complex arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation and life-threatening ventricular tachycardia can now be effectively treated in Chennai with specialised expertise and advanced systems
- Procedure covered under the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme; patients need not continue medication after the procedure: Dr. Deep Chandh Raja
- Advanced technologies ensure higher safety and success rates, positioning Chennai on the global map of advanced arrhythmia care: Dr. Aravindan Selvaraj
The advanced system, along with a suite of next-generation cardiac electrophysiology technologies designed for precise identification and targeted treatment of abnormal rhythm sources, was launched by Supreme Star R. Sarathkumar in the presence of Dr. Aravindan Selvaraj, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Kauvery Group of Hospitals, Dr Iyappan Ponnuswamy Medical Director, Kauvery Group of Hospitals, and Dr. Deep Chandh Raja, Senior Consultant & Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology, Kauvery Hospital, Vadapalani.
At the core of this innovation is the CARTO™ 3 system, which allows clinicians to create high-resolution, three-dimensional maps of the heart’s electrical activity, enabling pinpoint accuracy in locating and treating abnormal electrical pathways. Complementing this is the newly introduced CARTOSOUND® technology, offering real-time imaging of the heart during procedures, thereby enhancing procedural safety and precision.
Further strengthening its electrophysiology armamentarium, Kauvery Hospital has launched the QDOT® catheter, which delivers high-power, short-duration energy for faster and more controlled ablation of atrial fibrillation, along with the nGEN® radiofrequency ablation system, designed to safely destroy heart tissue responsible for irregular electrical signals.
Unveiling the system, Supreme Star R. Sarathkumar said, “I am happy that Kauvery Hospital, Vadapalani is pioneering advanced approaches in the treatment of arrhythmias, helping patients lead healthier lives. Heart health is truly the foundation of overall well-being, and it is important for everyone to take care of it. Simple steps such as maintaining a proper diet, practicing discipline in daily routines, exercising regularly and leading a stress-free life can make a huge difference in keeping the heart strong and healthy.”
Emphasising the broader impact of the initiative, Dr. Aravindan Selvaraj said, “These advanced technologies enable us to perform procedures with higher safety and success rates, even in challenging cases. This initiative positions Chennai on the global map for advanced arrhythmia care and marks a major milestone in cardiac treatment at Kauvery Hospital. By bringing globally established technologies to Tamil Nadu for the first time, we are ensuring patients can access world-class care closer to home.”
Explaining the clinical significance, Dr. Deep Chandh Raja said, “Heart rhythm disorders, or arrhythmias, occur when new short circuits develop in the heart’s electrical system. Patients may experience palpitations, dizziness, breathlessness or fainting. These electrical issues are evaluated using an Electrophysiology Study, and many can be safely treated with radiofrequency ablation. However, complex arrhythmias like atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia require advanced technology and specialised expertise for safe and effective treatment. With these new launches, we are making some of the most sophisticated treatments for heart rhythm disorders available in Tamil Nadu, and in some cases in India, for the first time.”
Answering questions from the media, Dr. Deep Chandh Raja said the advanced procedures would be gradually expanded to other branches of the Kauvery Group of Hospitals. On affordability, he clarified that the treatment is covered under the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme, and patients need not remain on long-term medication after the procedure.
He added that Kauvery Hospital, Vadapalani has already been performing these procedures for the past one week, catering to patients from across India as well as neighbouring countries, further cementing Chennai’s status as a fast-emerging global destination for advanced cardiac care.
Dr Sundarrajan, Chief Cardiologist, Kauvery Hospital Vadapalani welcomed the gathering.
