Film director Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi and Tamil Nadu Health Secretary Dr J Radhakrishnan launched the country’s first contactless self-blood testing kit of the city-based start-up Optimists on Wednesday.
Addressing at the launch, Dr Radhakrishnan said the Tamil Nadu government led by Chief Minister MK Stalin successfully controlled the spread of COVID-19 cases which was at its peak in May this year.
The government has increased the number of COVID-19 beds to over 1 lakh in government and private hospitals and took various steps to control the virus.
Besides these, Chepauk-Triplicane MLA Udhayanidhi Stalin had swung into action to help the needy through arranging CSR funds from corporate to assist the government in its endeavour in safeguarding the public, Dr Radhakrishnan added.
He recalled that ‘Varumun Kappom Thittam’ was introduced by the DMK patriarch and former Chief Minister Dr Kalaignar Karunanidhi to protect the poor and downtrodden from communicable and non- communicable diseases.
Following the footsteps of his father and mentor, Chief Minister MK Stalin had recently announced the ‘Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam’ scheme.
As part of this programme, the Chief Minister will launch a unique incentive to encourage common men to rescue those injured in road accidents and would also announce a reward of Rs 5,000 for the Good Samaritans on December 18.
Later addressing the media, Dr Radhakrishnan appealed the people to take preventive care from non-communicable diseases.

Contactless blood test solution
Throwing light on the company’s health kit, Saraswathi, Co-founder of Optimists said: “The need for this venture was born when we realised that the traditional methods of getting health check-ups are incredibly inefficient. “Though COVID-19 created scare among the public, it had created an awareness among the people to focus on healthy living and take preventing medical tests and treatments,” Saraswathi added.
Optimists’ Co-founder Velmurugan said: “Age-related chronic issues, such as heart or bone diseases, are often overlooked until later in life. However, research shows that many of these diseases can start decades before they reach serious stages. We can prevent the risks associated with these issues if we detect them early.”

Besides offering contactless laboratory tests, Optimists also extends free doctor consultations to everyone. They believe that speaking to a doctor to consult on health issues should not cost anything.
So far, Optimists have supported thousands of customers in Tamil Nadu.
