Kobelco Construction Equipment India (KCEI), a subsidiary of century-old Japan-based Kobelco Construction Machinery Co., has on Friday announced reaching a significant production milestone by rolling out its 20,000th excavator at its manufacturing plant in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh.
This facility serves both domestic and international markets, reinforcing India’s role as a key production center for Kobelco.

Addressing reporters at its Sri City facility, Takemichi Hirakawa, Managing Director & CEO, Kobelco Construction Equipment India, said, “Reaching the 20,000th excavator production milestone reflects our commitment to delivering high-quality construction equipment. India has emerged as an important manufacturing base for Kobelco, meeting both domestic demand and expanding our global footprint. Talking to navjeevanexpress.com, Takemichi Hirakawa was optimistic to roll out the milestone of 30,000th excavator in another 3 years. When asked about the compliance of GoIs goal of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Make in India), he said the company has achieved 70% indigenization and scale up further in the coming years. The company continues to maintain high-end leadership with over 25 per cent market share in the hydraulic excavator segment.

He further said the KCEI is also setting up a new R&D facility in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, aimed at enhancing technology development and product innovation. This facility will focus on advanced engineering solutions, customization for varied market requirements, and further strengthening India’s position as a key manufacturing and innovation hub for Kobelco.
E Moses, Director – Division Head, Sales & After Sales Division, KCEI said that the company has line up of launching new products soon to cater to the needs of local market.
KCEI is committed to environmental sustainability and technological advancement, aligning with the ‘Make in India’ initiative to strengthen the nation’s position as a global manufacturing hub, he added.
KCEI manufactures a wide range of excavators in India, with an annual production capacity of 3,000 units. The company supplies excavators to domestic customers, exports to more than 16 countries and continues to maintain high-end leadership with over 25% market share.
