“Kargil Vijay Diwas is named after the success of ‘Operation Vijay’, which commemorates the victory achieved over Pakistani intruders in the Kargil War of 1999. The operation was a saga of bravery and valour that lasted 80 days and ended with eviction of the intruders. Fighting at daunting altitudes and seemingly unassailable peaks ranging from 13,000 to 18,000 feet, what our Indian troops achieved was nothing short of a miracle,” the spokesman said.
