As part of commemoration of Konark “Vijay Diwas”, a Car Rally Expedition was flagged off from Jaisalmer on Thursday. The expedition is part of a series of events planned to commemorate 52 years since victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war in the Desert Sector, a Defence release said.

The expedition team consisted of 12 cars and personnel from the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, Indian Navy, Border Security Force and Civil administration; thereby making it a unique combination of personnel from all uniformed services and civil service that took part in the 1971 war. The momentous car rally was flagged off amidst great fanfare in Jaisalmer, setting the tone for a historic journey that honours the bravery of our armed forces and the unity of our nation.

In the two days of the expedition, the team covered a total distance of 600 kms rallying along the “Golden City of “Jaisalmer , iconic Munabao village, Jalipa and finished in historical region of Nadabet which played a key role in the 1971 war , where BSF not only stalled the enemy but also captured 15 enemy posts.
The team made their first halt at iconic Munabao village, a place echoing the saga of valour and triumph created by our heroes. The team was hosted by enthusiastic students of the village and mesmerised everyone through their cultural performance adding artistic flair to the occasion at PG College, Barmer. The event witnessed huge footfall with Superintendent of Police Barmer, DIG BSF and District Magistrate Barmer also in attendance.
A Senior Army officer delivered his talk on the historic win of India in 1971 war to spread awareness amongst the locals. A women officer delivered a motivational talk to village youth specially girls to join the Armed forces, thereby contributing their bit towards a unified and secure nation. The crowd also witnessed the wreath laying ceremony honouring the national heroes.
The event was graced by presence of 04 war Veterans and one Veernari who made the evening a memorable one. They were felicitated by the Chief guest for their unmatched service to the nation. The day ended with a memorable interaction with local ex-servicemen present during the event and the car rally team expressed their gratitude to these brave soldiers.
The Final Day of Car rally began with participants being greeted by the NCC cadets at village Jalipa. The Car rally team marched on spreading the message of National unity amongst the people. The team covered 274 Kms from Jalipa to historical region of Nadabet where saga of brave soldiers still echo and narrates the stories of valour and triumph of our Armed Forces, Central Armed Police Forces and Civil Administration.
The emotional flag-in ceremony served as the grand finale, uniting individuals in a celebration of patriotism and gratitude towards our nation’s heroes. The event culminated with Flag Retreat ceremony at Seema Darshan Nadabet by BSF and Car Rally Team, interacting with Ex-Serviceman who were present there to celebrate India’s victory in 1971 war. A large number of civilians chanted nationalistic slogans which vibrated in the atmosphere and left a memorable moment in everyone’s heart for the lifetime.
