LD College of Engineering, one of the oldest engineering colleges and the most revered and sought-after engineering institutions of Gujarat organised the Global Alumni Convention (GAC) here on Saturday. The alumni members had committed to raise a fund corpus of Rs 75 crore to help develop the institution and contribute towards its betterment to mark its diamond jubilee celebrations.

Among the distinguished guests who were present during the ceremony were  Banchhanidhi Pani, IAS, Commissioner of Technical Education, Gujarat; Mukesh Patel, international tax expert and Dr Rajul Gajjar, the vice chancellor of Gujarat Technological University. In the evening alumna of 1985 batch Nilesh Desai, Director, Space Applications Centre – ISRO, Ahmedabad was honoured with  LD Ratna award.

Viraj Mehta, Managing Director of Equirus PMS, along with Umesh Uttamchandani, Co-Founder, Chief Growth Officer, Dev Accelerator, delivered the keynote address of the Global Alumni Convention of the 77-year-old institution.

The Global Alumni Convention of LDCE was sponsored by Neeraj Gemawat of Gateway Group of Companies, who is also a 1994 Chemical Engineering batch alumnus of the institute along with Parag Shah of Endeavor Careers who is a 1991 Mechanical Engineering alumnus.

The Global Alumni Convention of LDCE had a very interesting line up. While the first session discussed wealth creation through smart investments at length, the second one spoke about the growth and development the institute has witnessed over its seven and half decade journey.

Several alumni members collectively donated Rs 3 crore for implementing various projects at the institute over the past one year. The global alumni convention was also an opportunity for the alumni members who are now settled across different parts of the world to jointly work towards realising their centennial vision for the institution.

Some of these donors include Govind Nadkarni, an alumni of Civil Engineering Department who contributed Rs 75 lakh for library upgradation; Vinod Adani who donated Rs 42 lakh for the strategic development plan of the college; Dhiren Vora, who donated Rs 47 lakh for upgradation of civil engineering laboratory; Chandrakant Patel, who contributed Rs 25 lakh towards the development of hydraulics and pneumatics laboratory and Mandakini Deshpande who donated Rs 50.02 lakh for upgradation of various laboratories. 

Among other key investors were Pavni Diwanji, Kunj Shah, Manish Kiri, Haresh Patel,  Ashok Thakkar, Rajesh Brahmbhatt, Yogesh C Morakhia, Rohit Bodivala and Shikha Trivedi. That apart, there were several other donors who also contributed jointly for specific projects for the betterment of the department.

The alumni convention was a valuable opportunity for all the alumni members to come together and relive their college days.

LDCE’s global alumni convention saw participation of at least 500 alumni members from across various batches of LDCE.

Alumni members of LDCE shared various ideas which was their own vision for the institution in the run upto its 100 year celebrations.

During a panel discussion held as part of the convention, certain noted and senior alumni members like Gopi Trivedi and Kunj Shah, Neeraj Gemawat of Gateway Group of Companies and Parag Shah of Endeavour Careers, among others shared their vision for LDCE over the next couple of decades, in the run up to the institution’s centenary celebrations.

The meeting indeed inspired several alumni members of the institute to become part of the college ecosystem and contribute once again to the betterment of the institution once again. The day concluded with merry making and networking over a Gala dinner.

Notably, on the occasion of the diamond jubilee celebrations of LDCE, alumni members of the revered institution had committed to raise a fund corpus of Rs 75 crore to help develop the institution and contribute towards its betterment.
