Lieutenant General Asit Mistry, (Retd), Director, School of Internal Security, Defence and Strategic Studies, Rashtriya Raksha University, Gandhinagar advocated the Cadets to learn the art of leadership while studying in school and not to compromise with the character in life.
He was speaking at the Diamond Jubilee Annual Day of Sainik School Balachadi in Jamnagar on Tuesday.
Lieutenant General Asit Mistry, (Retd), was an alumnus of Sainik School Balachadi and the National Defence Academy was the Chief Guest on this occasion.
The event commenced with the laying of wreath by the Chief Guest at the Shourya Stambh, the War Memorial of Martyrs.
Annual Day cultural programme commenced with the lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest. Group Captain Ravinder Singh, Principal, Sainik School Balachadi presented the School’s Annual Report highlighting the prominent achievements and the mission of the school to provide quality education for entry in the Defence Forces as officers.
The principal also stated that the school administration is constantly striving hard to improve the standards by introducing innovations in the existing system like providing better infrastructure, adopting new teaching methodologies and updating the existing facilities.
The presentation of annual report was followed by a mesmerizing variety programme performed by Balachadians. Cadets stole the heart of audience with their exceptional performance in the form of Saraswati Vandana performed by girl Cadet Dhwani of class VI, Skit on the importance of Constitution of India and Patriotic Dance. This assured parents that their wards can excel in every walk of life with their talents and acquired skills.
The Chief Guest gave away the prizes, trophies and certificates to the cadets excelled in various Academic and Co-curricular activities for the year 2020-21.
The most coveted ‘Cock House Trophy’ for the all round performer house was bagged by Sardar Patel House and Best all round Holding House was bagged by Nehru House. ‘Capt Nilesh Soni Trophy’ for the best NDA Cadet was awarded to Cadet Hemal Shrimali of Garuda House for standing first in order of merit from the school for 147th course of NDA, he was also honoured with a cash award of Rs 25,000 by Old Boys of Sainik School Association (OBSSA) foundation Ahmedabad for his achievement. Cadet Avadh Vasoya of class XII from Angre House was adjudged as the ‘Best All Round Cadet’ of the year.
The Chief Guest appreciated the efforts put in by the cadets for the grand show and also congratulated all those who won the prizes. He also emphasized the need to imbibe qualities required to develop holistic personality in Cadets and motivated them to be sincere, truthful, disciplined and dedicated to join Armed Forces.
The Chief Guest in his address shared his student’s life experience spent in Sainik School Balachadi and the National Defence Academy and also the memorable moments spent with Martyr Capt Nilesh Soni.
He said value system should not be changed and the endeavour of Cadets should be to pursue excellence always. He mentioned the famous quote of Aristotle that “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”
He added that the two qualities – Sincerity of purpose and honesty of efforts should always be there in a Cadet. He advised Cadets to learn the art of leadership while studying in school and not to compromise with the character in life. If wealth is lost money is lost, if health is lost something is lost but if character is lost then everything is lost and further he acquainted with three aspects of life – first face the challenges, second when problems or challenges look big then make it in small pieces and third take problems or challenges as an opportunity. On this occasion, the Chief Guest presented the Baton of Commandant NDA and Coffee table books of NDA to the school. The Principal on behalf of the school presented a memento to the Chief Guest as a token of remembrance.
OBSSA members were present on this occasion and the parents also witnessed the Annual Day events through live streaming on YouTube. They were highly impressed by the performance of their wards. The Programme culminated with the vote of thanks proposed by Squadron Leader Mahesh Kumar, Administrative Officer of the school.
