Stating that sports plays a vital role in the all-round development of students and over 10 percent students excel in sports and have been bringing laurels to the institute, LJ University Vice-Chancellor Dr Dinesh Awasthi on Wednesday announced the holding of first-ever state-level Corporate Basketball League and Corporate Volleyball League tournaments. With world-class sports infrastructures, close to 200 state and national level players vie for climbing the professional ladder to earn money and fame, simultaneously.
“We are proud to host two state-level sports tournaments at the same time in a single campus. We are all geared up to organise the unique twin leagues that will go a long way in further promoting sports culture in the state. We are also happy to share that Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel has agreed to be the Chief Guest of this twin leagues on Saturday, May 7. Alok Kumar Pandey, IAS. Managing Director & Commissioner of Tourism will be the guest of honour,” said Viral Shah, CEO, LJ Knowledge Foundation (LJKF).
Powered and executed by the LJ Institute of Sports Management, the Corporate Basketball League and the Corporate Volleyball League will feature 16 franchisee teams and 192 national and state-level players. As many as 64 matches will be played at the LJ University campus from May 7 to 29 as a part of the twin leagues.
The leagues will also feature 16 national and state-level coaches and 16 managers from the LJ Institute of Sports Management. Prize money of more than Rs 2 lakh, besides trophies and mementoes, will be awarded to the teams in the twin leagues. The winners of the each league will be given Rs 50,000 cash and a trophy and the runners will get Rs 25,000 and a trophy. The players were purchased by the franchise owners through professional bidding process in the range of Rs 3,000 to Rs 16,000. Accommodation, food, travelling conveyance expenses will be borne by the league management.
“We have received a very good response from our sponsors, who have extended generous support to the twin leagues. We have also received excellent support from our alumni for hosting the two leagues. We are confident the twin leagues will be highly successful and very well-received by the people of Ahmedabad,” he added.
The Corporate Basketball League is approved by the Gujarat State Basketball Association and the Corporate Volleyball League by the Gujarat State Volleyball Association. NRS Foundation and Oasis Sports and Recreation are also supporting the twin leagues.
Government of Gujarat’s Department of Tourism has agreed to be the part of this twin league.
