A day ahead of the Election Commission set to announce the Lok Sabha election schedule, the Prime Minisiter was addressing a rally in Tamil Nadu’s Kanyakumari.
- Central government is “fast-tracking” many initiatives for the Kanyakumari district
- Modi calls the DMK the enemy of the future and culture of Tamil Nadu
- After the new Parliament, 12-feet high Sengol installed in PM Modi’s Maninagar in Gujarat
PM Modi said that the Central government was “fast-tracking” many initiatives for the Kanyakumari district.
“To improve the connectivity of Tamil Nadu, we are preparing a network of railways and highways. Over the past 10 years, highway projects worth around ₹ 50,000 crore have been completed in Tamil Nadu. And, projects worth ₹ 70,000 crore are still underway,” he said.
The Prime Minister claimed that the workers of the ruling DMK had behaved with former Tamil Nadu chief minister (late) Amma J Jayalalithaa. He accused the MK Stalin-led party and the Congress of “cheating and insulting women”.

“The workers of the DMK and Congress only know how to cheat and insult women. The people of Tamil Nadu know how the workers of the DMK behaved with former state CM J Jayalalithaa. They do politics in the name of women. DMK leaders also questioned our move to bring the Women’s Reservation Bill,” he said.
He also called the DMK the enemy of the future and culture of Tamil Nadu. He accused the MK Stalin government of trying to stop the telecast of the Ayodhya event on January 22.
“But the DMK government tried to stop the telecast of the Ayodhya Ram temple consecration ceremony. On this Supreme Court had to reprimand the Tamil Nadu government…They also didn’t like the installation of the Sengol in the new parliament…It is our government which cleared the way for the Jallikattu,” he added.
He said the people of Tamil Nadu will reject those trying to break the country.
“People of Jammu and Kashmir rejected people who dreamt of breaking the country. Now, people of Tamil Nadu are going to do the same,” he added.
After the new Parliament, 12-feet high Sengol installed in PM Modi’s Maninagar
Ahmedabad Mayor Pratibhaben Patel on Friday unveiled the 12-feet high Sengol at Navkar Circle in Maninagar, formerly the Assembly constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sengol, derived from the Tamil word Semmai, means scepter, which ensures fair governance and justice.
Sengol inaugurated at Navkar Circle in Maninagar constituency in Ahmedabad
After becoming the Chief Minister, Prime Minister Modi won the first election from Rajkot, but later he made Maninagar assembly constituency in Ahmedabad his base. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) had decided to install a replica of Sengol at Navkar Circle in Maninagar, formerly the constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Standing Committee of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) had on November 9 approved the installation of this 12 feet high Sengol. Sculptor Vipul Rawal made a replica of Sengol from Dholpur stone at a cost of Rs 8.3 lakh.
PM Modi, as the Chief Minister, decided to contest the assembly elections from Maninagar in 2002, 2007 and 2012. He scored a hat-trick. Navkar Circle was the venue of his last public meeting as an MLA before becoming PM in 2014. Therefore, the AMC had decided to install the replica of Sengol there itself to tell his political journey along with his impartial governance.
Maninagar MLA Amul Bhatt and councilors Jigisha Solanki, Kamlesh Patel and Shivani Janaikar have contributed the fund for making this Sengol.
