Lt Gen PS Minhas, General Officer Commanding, Konark Corps and the Chief Coordinating Officer on behalf of Southern Command, on Wednesday personally reviewed the efforts being undertaken to augment and streamline the functioning of DRDO-run Dhanvantri COVID Care Hospital in Ahmedabad, says a Defence release.
The GOC thereafter updated Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and Governor of Gujarat Acharya Devvrat on the Army’s Medical Operations and assured them that the Army is fully geared to undertake all efforts to provide the best environment to treat COVID patients.
According to the GOC, “Approximately 600 COVID patients are presently undergoing treatment at the COVID facility and approximately 100 patients have been treated and discharged.”
Lt Gen PS Minhas appreciated the relentless hard work of all COVID Warriors in transforming the recovery rate and high-quality patient care with humane touch under this calamitous situation.
He said, “We will go to any extent to fight and defeat the pandemic. Indian Army is with the Nation in these testing times. Har Kaam Desh Ke Naam.”

To overcome the challenges presented by COVID, Armed Forces have come to the forefront yet again and have taken over the responsibility of running Covid Facilities at various locations. As the whole nation fights the pandemic with a myriad of people involved, the Defence forces also fight shoulder to shoulder as COVID Warriors on yet another front. Our Armed forces have won many wars in the past and will win the war on COVID as well. As part of its national effort to fight COVID, the functioning of 900-bedded Dhanvantri Covid Medical facility at Ahmedabad was entrusted to Indian Army in Southern Command area of responsibility. The medical facility has been raised by the combined efforts of of all Three Services (Army, IAF & Navy).
Extensive efforts were being put in by the Southern Army to improve the medical and logistics infrastructure at the hospital. Multiple medical teams comprising Doctors, COVID trained nurses, paramedics and medical assistance staff were moved from different military stations to augment the resources at this hospital. Multiple efforts are also being made to enhance the health care system amid the increasing load. General Officer Commanding, Ahmedabad Division has been nominated as the Chief Coordinating Officer on behalf of the Armed Forces.
