Macrobiotic nutritionist and chef Shonali Sabherwal exhorted all to have traditional Indian foods and stay healthy as they are the best diets containing detox formula. Further, a balanced diet is essential for physical and mental health.
She was addressing a video-conference organised by the FICCI FLO Ahmedabad Chapter Chairperson Taruna Patel which also saw the participation of Janvi Mehta, an actress, casting assistant, and skincare lover.
Shonali has also authored three books “The Detox Diet”, “The Beauty Diet” & “The Love Diet” to spread the knowledge on healthy diets.
“In the 21st century, people are more conscious about the importance of physical and mental well- being. The market is inundated with a tsunami of information and various products and medications for diets & detox. However, the authenticity and reliability of these products are always in question. And consuming any such product, is always a risk, without expert guidance and supervision, “ Sonali said while addressing the FLO members.
To drive home her message, she said. “Diet does not only mean to eat healthy food but also to consciously avoid unhealthy food. Food has the ability to destroy our cells & energy and vice versa. Diet should be planned on the basis of culture, lifestyle, atmosphere, etc. Thus it is subject to qualitative analysis.”
She enlisted some ground rules for a balanced and healthy lifestyle:
- Give up Sugar (Refined or unrefined & directly or Indirectly)
- Say ‘No’ to dairy & dairy products
- Include whole grain in food in your meal (Especially brown or red rice & millets)
- Add a good source of protein (leafy greens and not a protein supplement)
- Fermented Food at least twice with every meal is a must.
She also added that “Balanced diet has cured many diseases, including cancer. Overeating, skipping meals, food imbalance, and consumption of unhealthy food can result in allergy, acidity, cold, etc.”
She talked extensively about listening to one’s body, and the signs it threw out. She also threw light on Aryuveda, which holistically heals the body and thereby the mind. Her interaction with the members was very informative.
Nandita Munshaw, Vice Chairperson of FICCI FLO, gave the welcome address. After the insightful session, she added jocularly “There will be definitely changes in the Thepla & Undhiya recipes.”
Kiran Sewani delivered the vote of thanks.
