COIMBATORE, MARCH 6
A division bench comprising Justice SS Sundar and Justice N Senthilkumar of the Madras High Court (MHC) issued notice to Isha foundation and directed the State to ensure that no sewage waste is discharged by Isha into the near agricultural land. However, it refused to grant any stay on organising the Mahashivratri festival.
This action follows a petition from ST Sivagnanan of Semmedu Village, Coimbatore, highlighting the environmental and health hazards posed by improper sewage management at the Isha Yoga Center, especially in the lead-up to the large-scale Mahashivaratri event scheduled for March 8.
The Madras High Court heard the petitioner and said that the matter should have been filed before a civil court and also that the motive of the petitioner is questionable since it had been filed and came up for first hearing two days before the Mahashivratri festival. The court adjourned the matter to 27th March.
