In a show of solidarity and to spread the principles of Lord Mahavir, Ahmedabad East Digambar Jain community will take out a grand Ahimsa Yatra on Sunday, April 21.
Mahavir Jayanti, which is also known as Mahavir Janma Kalyanak is among the most auspicious day for Jains. The day marks the birth anniversary of the founder of Jainism Lord Mahavir. As per the Jain scriptures, Lord Mahavir was born on the 13th day of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month.
This year, Mahavir Jayanti will be celebrated on April 21, Sunday. The day is celebrated with various events like Rath Yatra, worshipping Lord Mahavir, propagating His principles and donating food to the poor, including religious harmony of all communities.
Shree Aadinath Digambar Jain Yuvak Mandal has taken the initiative to bring all Digambar Jain outfits in Ahmedabad East under one umbrella body to take out the Ahimsa Yatra on Sunday, April 21 in a grand and befitting manner.
Shree Aadinath Digambar Jain Yuvak Mandal has commenced the press conference with a message: “Let us all resolve to build a harmonious society by following the path of compassion, Jivdaya and non-violence as prophesied by Mahavir Swami and observe pure vegetarianism by abstaining from eating non-vegs like fish, meat and chicken on this auspicious day.”
Shree Aadinath Digambar Jain Yuvak Mandal president Mayank Jain said, “We are organizing an Ahimsa Yatra on Sunday, April 21 to mark Lord Mahavir Jayanti in Eastern Ahmedabad. For the first time, more than 5,000 Jains will take part in this grand yatra. The yatra will cover more than 30 temples en route. Around 1,000 to 1,200 two-wheelers, over 200 four-wheelers, 40 big vehicles and 50 open jeeps will participate in this yatra.”
The committee members consisting Mahavir Kunavat, Raju Jangda, Rajesh Meghavat, Bhavatilal Hisavat, Mahendra Salavat, Amrut Timruva, Chandu Jodavat, and Mitesh Kumar Salavat said, “Mahaveer Jayanti is celebrated by us for the last 10 years and we also organize a grand Ahimsa Yatra every year. The main objective of this Yatra is to awaken the spirit of non-violence among the people of the world. This year our Grand Ahimsa Yatra will circumambulate the eastern part of city covering a route of 20-km. There will be 15 special tableaux of Jainism spreading the message of Lord Mahavir.”
“This Ahimsa Yatra will start from Hatkeshwar Jain Temple at 7:30 am and will cover other Jain temples in, Isanpur, Sukhram Nagar, Khodiyarnagar, Jain Milan and converge at Bharat Party Plot in Rabari Colony around noon. Keeping the scorching summer in mind, cool drinks and caps will be provided to the participants. A medical team will also accompany the yatris. About, 10,000 packets of prasad will be prepared and distributed to all the people of other communities passing through the yatra route. After the closing ceremony, food in the form of Prasad has been arranged for 5,000 Jains,” the team added.
