In a fillip to DMK Government’s job creation for youth and industrialization drive, US-based Corning Incorporated has partnered with domestic telecommunications player Optiemus Infra-com to setup India’s first cover-glass manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu. The facility, which is called Bharat Innovative Glass Technologies (BIG Tech), is being billed as the first in India to produce ”high-quality, finished cover-glass parts for mobile consumer electronics.”

Corning’s BIG Tech facility is located in the SIPCOT Pillaipakkam industrial park in Kanchipuram district. Its main focus will be on catering to the increasing demand for finished cover-glass components from manufacturers in the country.

Commenting on this development, Chief Minister MK Stalin said, “Today’s groundbreaking for Bharat Innovative Glass Technologies (BIG Tech) not only marks a significant investment in our state’s industrial capabilities but also reinforces Tamil Nadu’s position as a hub for innovation and technological advancement. Ashok Gupta, Executive Chairman of Optiemus Infracom, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the collaboration’s alignment with the Indian government’s Make in India initiative. “Our collaboration with Corning exemplifies our shared commitment to driving technological advancements and delivering high-quality products to the market. Establishing India’s first cover-glass finishing operation for mobile consumer electronics is a major milestone in our journey to meet the growing demand for high-quality, advanced cover glass,” Gupta said.
