Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya and Union Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan participated in the ‘Fit India Sunday on Cycle’ campaign at Sabarmati Riverfront here on Sunday.
It was organized in association with The Indian Medical Association and the Sports Authority of India. More than 650 people joined in cycling at the riverfront.

Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya said, “The Fit India Movement is moving forward across the country. Sunday on Cycle has gradually started becoming a culture. Today doctors at more than 5,000 places are giving the message of Fit India by doing Sunday on cycling. This Sunday’s theme has been launched by IMA across the country.”
“If we want to stay fit, we have to do cycling. We have to take up cycling to save nature, environment, reduce pollution, reduce traffic. We have to go cycling to save the country’s livelihood. We have to do cycling to keep our health good, to be fit. Cycling is an exercise that keeps the country fit along with us. And so, at the call of the Prime Minister, the Sports Ministry of the Government of India is running a Sunday on Cycle programme every week across the country. Each week has a different theme. Each theme includes different sections of the society. Sometimes government employees, sometimes sportspersons, sometimes industrialists and sometimes NGOs join. This time doctors have joined. Every citizen of the country is expected to keep himself fit to fulfill the dream of a developed India,” the minister added.

He further said that in the coming days, cycling will be linked to carbon credit. By installing and monitoring a chip in cycling, we can also convert it into carbon credit. The Sports Ministry has started a movement in this direction.
Talking about the Prime Minister’s nationwide campaign against obesity, he said that recently, the Prime Minister has launched a campaign to create awareness about obesity. Cycling is also a good solution. Let us cycle and create awareness and fight obesity. We have to build a developed India. But it is very important for the citizens of the country to be healthy to build a developed India. Healthy citizens build a healthy society. Only a healthy society can build a prosperous nation. In order to realise the dream of a prosperous nation, the citizens of the country must stay fit and to stay fit, we must make cycling the culture of our lives. Right now we are running a movement called “Sunday on Cycling”, but going forward cycling should become a part of our lives.
He appealed to all present that if our workplace is nearby, we have to go to pick up vegetables or go to a nearby place, then use a bicycle. Today such a large number of doctors have cycled and given the message of Fit India not only to Ahmedabad but to the entire country.
Members of Parliament Hasmukhbhai Patel and Dineshbhai Makwana, Regional Director of Sports Authority of India, Gandhinagar, Manikant Sharma, Members of Indian Medical Association Gujarat and Ahmedabad Medical Association were present in large numbers on the occasion.
