Aiming to avoid blood transfusion related complications and help the patients’ kin from the worries of blood donation, Marengo Asia Hospitals has signed a pact with Werfen India, pioneers in medical technology, to introduce bloodless heart transplant in the medical tourism capital of India, Ahmedabad on Tuesday, announced Dr Raajiv Singhal, Managing Director & Group CEO, Marengo Asia Hospitals.
In a path breaking collaboration, a very first-of-its-kind in the entire India and South Asia region, Marengo Asia Hospitals brings one of the most advanced techniques of transfusion free heart transplant.
- Marengo CIMS Hospital, Ahmedabad will be the first Indian corporate hospital to extend this innovative technology to its patients

The collaboration was signed by Dr Raajiv Singhal, Managing Director & Group CEO, Marengo Asia Hospitals and Anurag Mishra, Regional Director- India and South Asia, Werfen.
Dr Klaus Goerlinger, consultant for anaesthesiology, emergency & intensive care medicine and globally renowned for hemostaseology, will be leading the program for implementation of the protocols. Dr Goerlinger was associated with University Essen hospital, Germany for around 3 decades. He is currently the global Medical director – PBM for Werfen.
Speaking with the media, Dr Klaus Goerlinger, said, “This bloodless heart transplants have been successfully done in Europe. Under this collaboration, Marengo Asia Hospitals will introduce this technique in India, which will also be the first in Asia-Pacific regions. This process not only avoid post-surgery complications but also safer and efficacious. Further, it will cut short the recuperation period and patient-friendly.”
The agreement was signed in the presence of Dr Keyur Parikh, Chairman – Marengo CIMS Hospital, Dr Dhiren Shah, Director – Heart & Lung Transplant Program, and Dr Ajay Gandhi, Associate Director- Clinical Affairs, Werfen India.
