The Kidney Transplant surgeons at Marengo CIMS Hospital here have created a record by successfully completing 100 kidney transplants within a span of nine years. The medical team for kidney transplants has evolved over the last few years with advanced technology and enhanced surgical techniques to emerge as a preferred team for medical excellence in Renal Transplants, announced Dr Siddharth Mavani, Director- Nephrology & Kidney Transplant, Marengo CIMS Hospital, and his team comprising Dr Pankaj Shah, Dr Hitesh Desai, Dr Mayur Patil.
The surgical procedures in Renal Sciences commenced operations in the year 2015 with the first kidney transplant performed at Marengo CIMS Hospital. Over the past few years, the team has grown to be recognized for the pioneering surgical procedures they have adopted to enhance patient care and optimize faster patient recovery. In the transformative processes, the transplant outcomes have been expanding significantly to position the hospital as a preferred destination for organ transplants.
A kidney transplant is a surgical procedure in which a healthy kidney from a donor is placed into a person whose kidneys are no longer functioning properly. This transplant can come from either a living donor or a deceased donor. A kidney transplant is typically needed when someone has end-stage renal disease (ESRD) or kidney failure. This condition occurs when the kidneys are no longer able to filter waste and excess fluids from the blood effectively. Common causes of ESRD include chronic conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, glomerulonephritis (inflammation of the kidney’s filtering units), and polycystic kidney disease.
Dr Siddharth Mavani, Director-Nephrology & Kidney Transplant, Marengo CIMS Hospital says, “The journey to achieve a century in kidney transplants has been incredible for the team. The dedication of each one of the team members to establish our clinical excellence as a potent force has been remarkable. We are so proud to have achieved a hundred to our credit. With the support the management has extended to us to make this possible, we are increasingly directed to do better to enhance patient care outcomes, save more and more lives, and strengthen our position as a preferred healthcare provider.”
Dr Keyur Parikh, Chairman, Marengo CIMS Hospital says, “As we celebrate the remarkable milestone of 100 successful kidney transplants at Marengo CIMS Hospital, we recognize the strength of the team of doctors with us, performing to their optimum skillful levels to achieve the best possible outcomes. Dr Raajiv Singhal, Managing Director & Group CEO, Marengo Asia Hospitals says, “We are immensely proud to have reached the milestone of performing 100 kidney transplants at our hospital. An estimated 1.8 lakh persons suffer from renal failure every year. However, the number of renal transplants done is around 6,000 only. An estimated 2 lac patients die of liver failure or liver cancer annually in India, about 10-15% of which can be saved with a timely liver transplant. Kidney transplantation offers a ray of hope for individuals grappling with end-stage kidney disease. Unlike dialysis, which serves as a temporary solution, a successful kidney transplant can provide long-term relief and significantly improve the quality of life.
