MarkPatent.Org, a prominent non-profit organization dedicated to the awareness and advancement of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), successfully concluded its two-day 18th Annual International Intellectual Property Conclave on Sunday. The event took place at Renaissance by Marriott, Ahmedabad and drew experts, legal professionals, and innovators from around the globe.

Founded by Dr. Rajeshkumar Acharya, a distinguished Patent and Trademarks Attorney and Proprietor at H K Acharya and Company, MarkPatent.Org has been at the forefront of propagating knowledge and awareness about various components of IPR, including trademarks, patents, copyrights, and designs. The theme for this year’s conclave was “Driving Innovations and Empowering Growth,” reflecting the integral role of IPR in fostering innovation and economic development.

Founded by Dr. Rajeshkumar Acharya, a distinguished Patent and Trademarks Attorney and Proprietor at H K Acharya and Company, MarkPatent.Org has been at the forefront of propagating knowledge and awareness about various components of IPR, including trademarks, patents, copyrights, and designs.

Day 1: Saturday – February 8, 2025

The event commenced with the traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, symbolizing the enlightenment and dissemination of knowledge. Dr. Omkar Acharya, Trustee at MarkPatent.Org, delivered the welcoming speech, setting the tone for the sessions ahead.

Percy Avari, Executive Director of Mazda Limited, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, emphasizing the importance of intellectual property in today’s rapidly evolving business landscape.

The distinguished speakers below spoke on the following topics.

  • Omkar Acharya (H K Acharya and Company, India): His topic was “Driving Innovations and Empowering Growth” He said that Businesses and entrepreneurs must embrace cutting-edge technologies, creative solutions, and strong intellectual property strategies to stay ahead in the competitive landscape. He also emphasized that Intellectual property rights play a crucial role in protecting these innovations, ensuring that creators and companies reap the benefits of their ingenuity.
  • Pamela Ortega (Provimarcas, Colombia): Her topic was “IP Expansion: Driving Growth and Innovation in the Indian Market across Colombia and The Andean Community”. She discussed how Intellectual Property (IP) expansion catalyzes economic growth and innovation in the Indian market while creating strategic opportunities in Colombia and the Andean Community. She highlighted India’s evolving IP landscape, government initiatives like ‘Make in India’ and ‘Startup India,’ and the increasing role of patents, trademarks, and copyrights in fostering a competitive edge.
  • Jatin Jalundhwala (Adani Group, India) highlighted how robust IP protection fuels economic and technological advancement. He discussed how patents encourage R&D investments, trademarks build strong brand identities, and copyrights safeguard creative works, all fostering a competitive market. He additionally, emphasized the role of IP in startups, global trade, and digital transformation, stressing that strategic IP management is key to scaling businesses and securing long-term growth.
  • Geetha Kandiah (KASS International Sdn Bhd, Malaysia): Her topic was “Will Your Use of Generative AI Land You in HOT SOUP?” She focused on the legal and ethical implications of using generative AI. She addressed the potential risks of copyright infringement, intellectual property theft, and the unauthorized use of AI-generated content. The speaker could have emphasized the importance of understanding the boundaries between creativity and AI assistance, highlighting the need for proper attribution, licensing, and compliance with laws related to AI outputs.
  • Nadine Kolliyil (Jyothy Labs, India): Her Topic was “Valuing Intangible Assets: The Role and Value of IP in Business Growth and Strategic Decisions”. She highlighted the crucial role intellectual property (IP) plays in the growth and strategic decisions of a business. By valuing intangible assets like patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets, companies can enhance their competitive advantage, secure their innovations, and maximize revenue opportunities.
  • Sameet Gambhir (UFLEX Limited, India): His topic was “Evolving IPs Landscape – The Future Trends, Challenges & Opportunities”. He explored how intellectual property (IP) rights are adapting to rapid technological advancements, such as AI, blockchain, and biotechnology. He highlighted the increasing importance of protecting digital assets, ensuring data privacy, and managing cross-border IP issues in a globalized economy.
  • Gaston Richelet (RICHELET & RICHELET, Argentina): His Topic is “Understanding the Importance of Securing Protection for Your IP Assets in This Key Latin American Market”. He emphasized the strategic importance of securing IP protection in this key Latin American market, highlighting how Argentina’s growing economy and innovation sectors present both opportunities and risks. He discussed the legal framework for patents, trademarks, and copyrights in Argentina, detailing how businesses can safeguard their innovations and brand identity.

The plenary session featured expert comments, and mementos and certificates were presented by an Hon’ble Former Chief Justice of the High Court of Gujarat.

Technical Session 1 concluded with expert insights and acknowledgments from S. Chandrasekaran, Former Controller General of Patents, Designs, and Trademarks.

Technical Session 2 featured a mock trial, with Avadhoot Sumant acting as the Plaintiff’s Advocate and Shashvata Shukla as the Defendant’s Advocate, providing a practical perspective on IPR litigation.

Day 2: Sunday – February 9, 2025

Day 2 commenced with a welcoming speech by Padmin Buch, IPR Domain Expert. Dr. Satya Acharya, Director of CrAdLE, EDII, was the Chief Guest and delivered an inspiring speech on the role of IPR in entrepreneurial growth.

The distinguished speakers below spoke on the following topics

  • Khawla Al Banna (One World Intellectual Property, MENA Region): Her topic was “Innovation and Intellectual Property in the MENA Region: Insights from the Global Innovation Index 2024”. She highlighted the significant strides made by countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region in fostering innovation, with a focus on the key role that intellectual property (IP) plays in this growth.
  • (Adv.) Shraddha Gujar Damle (JetSynthesys Pvt Ltd, India): Her topic is “Driving Innovation through E-sports: Rise of a New Ecosystem in India”. She spoke how the e-sports industry in India is rapidly evolving, fueled by technological advancements, digital transformation, and a growing youth demographic. She discussed how e-sports create new opportunities for innovation in areas such as game development, streaming platforms, sponsorships, and online communities.
  • Kevin Murphy (Wuersch & Gering LLP, USA): “Outsized Influence: California’s Effect on IP Enforcement in the USA”. Mr. Murphy focused on how California, as a hub for innovation and technology, has set a precedent in intellectual property enforcement. He highlighted how the state’s legal framework, along with its thriving industries like tech, entertainment, and biotechnology, has shaped IP law and enforcement practices.
  • Emirsyah Dinar (AFFA Intellectual Property Rights, Indonesia): His topic is “Exploring IP Opportunities in Indonesia for Indian Entities”. He highlighted the growing importance of intellectual property (IP) protection in Indonesia, a key emerging market for Indian businesses. He discussed the legal framework in Indonesia, including patent, trademark, and copyright laws, and how Indian companies can leverage these protections to safeguard their innovations and enhance their market position.
  • Simona Lavagnini (LGV Avvocati, Europe): “AI in Europe from the Point of View of IP”. She highlighted the evolving landscape of intellectual property in the context of artificial intelligence. She addressed the challenges and opportunities that AI presents for IP protection, focusing on issues such as patenting AI inventions, copyright concerns around AI-generated content, and the legal ownership of AI innovations.
  • Manish Garg (GSP Crop Science Ltd., India): “Biological Diversity-IP Issues in Agriculture”. He addressed the importance of protecting biodiversity through intellectual property rights (IPRs) to ensure sustainable agricultural practices. He also highlighted how patents, plant variety protection, and geographical indications can play a crucial role in conserving indigenous plant species, encouraging innovation in crop breeding, and promoting fair access to genetic resources.
  • Padmin Buch (IP Domain Expert, India): “Empowering Growth: Innovation, IP, and Commercialization”. He discussed how intellectual property (IP) serves as a crucial driver of innovation, enabling businesses to protect their unique ideas and products. By effectively leveraging IP rights, companies can gain a competitive edge, attract investments, and ensure long-term sustainability. He highlighted how commercialization of IP—through licensing, partnerships, or direct sales—can open new revenue streams, accelerate market entry, and enhance business growth.
  • Yogesh Bajaj (Indian Patent Office, India): Effective Measures to Promote IP Activity in India. He highlighted the importance of creating awareness about intellectual property rights (IPR) among startups, SMEs, and the general public. He emphasized strengthening IP education and training at various levels, improving access to affordable IP services, and offering incentives for innovation, such as tax benefits or grants for research and development.

The session was summed up by S. Chandrasekaran, who provided valuable insights into the evolving landscape of IPR. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Rajeshkumar Acharya, Managing Trustee of MarkPatent.Org, expressing gratitude to all participants, speakers, and attendees for making the conclave a resounding success.

The 18th Annual International Intellectual Property Conclave of MarkPatent.Org highlighted the vital role of IPR in today’s global economy and its potential to drive innovation and foster growth across industries and regions. The event served as a significant platform for knowledge sharing, networking, and collaboration among IPR professionals and stakeholders worldwide.
